Kwai Chung is an urban area within Tsuen Wan New Town in the New Territories of Hong Kong. Together with Tsing Yi Island,it is part of the Kwai Tsing District of Hong Kong. It is also part of Tsuen Wan New Town.
In 2000,it had a population of 287,000. Its area is 9.93 km2. Areas within Kwai Chung include:Kwai Fong,Kwai Hing,Lai King,Tai Wo Hau. Kwai Chung is the site of part of the container port of Hong Kong.
In earlier times Kwai Chung was called Kwai Chung Tsai (葵涌子). Kwai Chung was a stream (Chung) that emptied into Gin Drinkers Bay (葵涌澳). The whole bay was reclaimed for land and the stream is no longer visible.[ clarification needed ]
Traditionally,Kwai Chung is divided into Sheung Kwai Chung (上葵涌;'Upper Kwai Chung'),and Ha Kwai Chung (下葵涌;'Lower Kwai Chung'). Administratively,the former is called North Kwai Chung,and the latter South Kwai Chung.
Sheung Kwai Chung,Chung Kwai Chung Village (中葵涌村) and Ha Kwai Chung Village (下葵涌村) are recognized villages under the New Territories Small House Policy. [1]
Kwai Chung is the home of the principal commercial cargo handling area of Hong Kong,the Kwai Chung Container Terminal,one of the largest and busiest port facilities in the world. The main commercial port was relocated here from Yau Ma Tei in the 1980s,in preparation for the West Kowloon Reclamation,which has left the original waterfront of Yau Ma Tei almost half a mile inland.[ citation needed ]

Kwai Tsing is one of the 18 districts of Hong Kong. It consists of two parts - Kwai Chung and Tsing Yi Island. Kwai Tsing is part of the New Territories. It had a population of 520,572 in 2016. The district has the third least educated residents and their income is below average.
Tsing Yi,sometimes referred to as Tsing Yi Island,is an island in the urban area of Hong Kong,to the northwest of Hong Kong Island and south of Tsuen Wan. With an area of 10.69 km2 (4.13 sq mi),the island has been extended drastically by reclamation along almost all its natural shore and the annexation of Nga Ying Chau (牙鷹洲) and Chau Tsai. Three major bays or harbours,Tsing Yi Lagoon,Mun Tsai Tong and Tsing Yi Bay (青衣灣) in the northeast,have been completely reclaimed for new towns.

Kwai Tsing Container Terminals is the main port facilities in the reclamation along Rambler Channel between Kwai Chung and Tsing Yi Island,Hong Kong. It evolved from four berths of Kwai Chung Container Port completed in the 1970s. It later expanded with two berths in the 1980s. Two additional terminals are added adjoining to Stonecutters Island in the 1990s and was renamed Kwai Chung Container Terminals. In the 2000s,Container Terminal 9 on the Tsing Yi Island was completed and the entire facility was renamed to Kwai Tsing Container Terminals.

Kau Wa Keng,or Kau Wah Keng or Kau Wa Kang,is a village and valley in Lai King,Kowloon, Hong Kong. It is located near the reclaimed Lai Chi Kok Bay in New Kowloon. Three rivers in the valley once joined at the bay and formed a beach at the estuary. Kau Wah Keng is the former site of Lai Chi Kok Amusement Park,which was closed in 1997.
