Kwai Chung is an urban area within Tsuen Wan New Town in the New Territories of Hong Kong. Together with Tsing Yi Island,it is part of the Kwai Tsing District District of Hong Kong. It is also part of Tsuen Wan New Town.
In 2000,it had a population of 287,000. Its area is 9.93 km². Areas within Kwai Chung include:Kwai Fong,Kwai Hing,Lai King,Tai Wo Hau. Kwai Chung is the site of part of the container port of Hong Kong.
In earlier times Kwai Chung was called Kwai Chung Tsz (葵涌子). Kwai Chung was a stream (Chung) that emptied into Gin Drinkers Bay. The whole bay was reclaimed for land and the stream is no longer visible.[ clarification needed ]
Traditionally,Kwai Chung is divided into Sheung Kwai Chung (上葵涌;'Upper Kwai Chung'),and Ha Kwai Chung (下葵涌;'Lower Kwai Chung'). Administratively,the former is called North Kwai Chung,and the latter South Kwai Chung.
Kwai Chung is the home of the principal commercial cargo handling area of Hong Kong,the Kwai Chung Container Terminal,one of the largest and busiest port facilities in the world. The main commercial port was relocated here from Yau Ma Tei in the 1980s,in preparation for the West Kowloon Reclamation,which has left the original waterfront of Yau Ma Tei almost half a mile inland.

Kwai Tsing is one of the 18 districts of Hong Kong. It consists of two parts - Kwai Chung and Tsing Yi Island. Kwai Tsing is part of the New Territories. It had a population of 520,572 in 2016. The district has the third least educated residents and their income is below average.
Tsing Yi,sometimes referred to as Tsing Yi Island,is an island in the urban area of Hong Kong,to the northwest of Hong Kong Island and south of Tsuen Wan. With an area of 10.69 km2 (4.13 sq mi),the island has extended drastically by reclamation along almost all its natural shore and the annexation of Nga Ying Chau (牙鷹洲) and Chau Tsai. Three major bays or harbours,Tsing Yi Lagoon,Mun Tsai Tong and Tsing Yi Bay (青衣灣) in the northeast,have been completely reclaimed for new towns.
Tsuen Wan District is one of the 18 districts of Hong Kong. It is located in the New Territories and is served by the Tsuen Wan line of the MTR metro system. Its area is 60,7 km². Its residents,who mostly live in Tsuen Wan Town,enjoy the highest income in the New Territories.
Tsuen Wan New Town is a new town in Hong Kong. It spans Tsuen Wan,Kwai Chung and the eastern part of Tsing Yi Island. Traditionally,the administrative officials of Tsuen Wan managed the area of Tsuen Wan proper,Kwai Chung,Tsing Yi Island,Ma Wan and Northeast Lantau Island. Its total development area is about 24 square kilometres (9.3 sq mi). The population of the new town is approximately 801,800,with the planned capacity being 845,000.
Rambler Channel is a body of water in Hong Kong that separates Tsing Yi Island from Tsuen Wan and Kwai Chung in the New Territories. The channel separates the two landmasses by 900 metres at its widest point.
Kwai Chung Sports Ground is one of the major sports grounds in the Kwai Tsing District,located in Kwai Fong,Hong Kong. It opened in 1978.
Kwai Chung Road is a throughway in Kwai Chung of the New Territories in Hong Kong. It is one of the busiest roads in Hong Kong. The Transport Department has classified it as a trunk road.
Tsing Yi Peak,also known as Sam Chi Heung,is a hill with three peaks occupying the southern half of the Tsing Yi Island,Hong Kong. The hill is situated on the western half of Victoria Harbour. Its peaks are good locations to observe the harbour and the channels among harbour islands. While situated in the south,a short hill Liu To Shan occupies the northwest of the island.
Route 5 is Hong Kong trunk road that runs in an east-west direction across Kowloon and ends in Tsuen Wan in the New Territories,where it connects to Route 9. It is one of the most seriously congested routes in Kowloon,as it serves as an interchange to the Hung Hom Cross-Harbour Tunnel,especially during peak hours.
Kwai Chung Plaza (葵涌廣場) is a private housing estate and shopping centre located in the Kwai Tsing District at 7 –11 Hing Fong Road,Kwai Chung,New Territories,Hong Kong. It is adjacent to Kwai Fong Estate,Metroplaza and Kwai Fong station of MTR.
Kwai Tsing Container Terminals is the main port facilities in the reclamation along Rambler Channel between Kwai Chung and Tsing Yi Island,Hong Kong. It evolved from four berths of Kwai Chung Container Port completed in the 1970s. It later expanded with two berths in the 1980s. Two additional terminals are added adjoining to Stonecutters Island in the 1990s and was renamed Kwai Chung Container Terminals. In the 2000s,Container Terminal 9 on the Tsing Yi Island was completed and the entire facility was renamed to Kwai Tsing Container Terminals.

Tai Wo Hau Estate is a public housing estate in Tai Wo Hau,Kwai Chung,Kwai Tsing District,New Territories,Hong Kong. It has a total of 17 blocks following redevelopment.
Kowloon West Cluster is the largest among all seven hospital clusters managed by Hospital Authority in Hong Kong. It consists of five public hospitals and 16 general outpatient clinics to provide public healthcare services for the population of Wong Tai Sin,Mong Kok,Sham Shui Po,Kwai Tsing,Tsuen Wan and North Lantau. In mid-2012,the population was 1,887,600. The current Cluster Chief Executive is Dr Doris Tse Man-wah.
