Funen County is a former county in central Denmark, comprising the islands of Funen, Langeland, Tåsinge, Ærø, and approximately 90 other islands, of which only 25 are inhabited. The county was formed on 1 April 1970, comprising the former counties of Odense and Svendborg. The county was abolished from 1 January 2007, when it merged into Region of Southern Denmark.
Assens is a town with a population of 6,050 on the west coast of the island of Funen on the eastern side of the Little Belt in central Denmark. By road, Assens is located 41.2 kilometres (25.6 mi) southwest of Odense, 34 kilometres (21 mi) northwest of Faaborg, and 33.34 kilometres (20.72 mi) southeast of Middelfart. It was the birthplace of sculptor Jens Adolf Jerichau who married the well-known portraitist Elisabeth Jerichau-Baumann; both artists' works are exhibited at the local art museum, Vestfyns Kunstmuseum.

The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town of Middelfart.

The municipality covered an area of 65 km², and had a total population of 5,626 (2006). Its last mayor was Hanne Christensen, a member of the Venstre political party. The main town and the site of its municipal council was the town of Nørre Aaby. To the north are the waters of Båring Cove and beyond that the Kattegat. To the west are the waters of Fem's Cove and beyond that the Little Belt.

The main city and the site of its municipal council is the seaport city of Kolding, the sixth largest city in Denmark.

Gelsted is a small town and parish in northwestern Funen, Denmark. Gelsted is located roughly halfway between Ejby and Aarup, 28 kilometers west of Odense. The parish is located in Middelfart Municipality, and a small portion is located in Assens Municipality, within the Region of Southern Denmark. 1 January 2022 the town had a population of 1,711 with 2,312 in the parish in total itself. It contains the Gelsted Church.
