Good Intentions is the third studio album by Canadian rapper Nav. It was released on May 8, 2020, by XO Records and Republic Records. [2] It follows his second studio album, Bad Habits , which was released in 2019. The album features guest appearances from Young Thug, Future, Gunna, Travis Scott, Lil Uzi Vert, Pop Smoke, Don Toliver, and Lil Durk. The re-release of the album, titled  Brown Boy 2 , the deluxe edition and a sequel to his 2019 unofficial Brown Boy EP, was released three days later, on May 11, 2020. It features additional guest appearances from Quavo and Lil Duke.

The album was met with mixed reviews from contemporary critics. At the aggregate site Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from professional publications, the album received an average score of 54, based on 4 reviews, indicating “Mixed or Average Reviews”. [8]

Background

On April 27, 2020, Nav announced the follow-up to his sophomore studio album, Bad Habits , which was released on March 22, 2019. [2] Alongside the announcement, he revealed the album's trailer with teased potential features from American rappers Lil Uzi Vert and the late Pop Smoke, showing clips of him talking to both rappers.

"I had goals written down of going No. 1. I had a vision board in my room with all the things I want. This year, I pretty much got all of them. I believe in [the] law of attraction a lot." [9]

Singles

The album's lead single, "Turks" with Gunna featuring Travis Scott, was released for digital download on March 27, 2020. The song was produced by Wheezy. [10] The music video was released on March 30, 2020. The music video was directed by Nav's manager Cash, who also co-wrote the song, and Zac Facts. [11] The song peaked at number 45 on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100. The song also peaked at number 17 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it Nav's highest-charting song both as a lead or, at the time of the song’s release, featured artist. [12]

Commercial performance

Good Intentions debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart, earning 135,000 album-equivalent units (including 73,000 copies as pure album sales) in its first week. [13] This became Nav's second US number-one album. [13] The album also accumulated a total of 84.8 million on-demand streams of the album's songs during the tracking week. [13] In its second week, the album dropped to number ten on the chart, earning an additional 35,000 units. [14]

In his home country of Canada, the album debuted at number one on the Canadian Albums Chart, earning 10,000 album-equivalent units in its first week. [15] This became Nav's second number-one debut on the chart. [15]

Sergio Giavanni Kitchens, known professionally as Gunna, is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter. He signed with Young Thug's YSL Records, an imprint of 300 Entertainment in 2016, and rose to fame with his third mixtape, Drip Season 3 (2018). It moderately entered the Billboard 200, while his collaborative mixtape Drip Harder with fellow Georgia rapper Lil Baby, peaked at number four on the chart. Its lead single, "Drip Too Hard" reached number four on the Billboard Hot 100, received diamond certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), and was nominated for Best Rap/Sung Performance at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards.

Emergency Tsunami is the second commercial mixtape by Canadian rapper Nav. It was released through XO and Republic Records on November 6, 2020. The mixtape contains guest appearances from Gunna, Young Thug, Lil Baby, Lil Keed, and SahBabii. It was produced by American record producer Wheezy, with help from other producers. The mixtape was Nav's third project of the year, following his third studio album, Good Intentions, and its deluxe reissue, Brown Boy 2. The bonus version of the mixtape, including two additional songs, was released five days later, on November 11, 2020. It features an additional guest appearance from Future. It was Wheezy's second time producing every song of a project, following Gunna's extended play, Drip or Drown, in 2017. The cover of the mixtape says "emergency tsunami" in red letters in Japanese. The mixtape was supported by one single, "Young Wheezy", with Gunna, which was sent to US rhythmic contemporary radio, on January 12, 2021.

We Love You Tecca 2 is the second studio album by American rapper Lil Tecca. It was released through Galactic and Republic Records on August 27, 2021, one day after his 19th birthday. It serves as the sequel to his 2019 mixtape, We Love You Tecca, and the album was released three days before the two-year anniversary of the mixtape.

<i>Demons Protected by Angels</i> 2022 studio album by Nav

Demons Protected by Angels is the fourth studio album by Canadian rapper Nav. It was released through XO and Republic Records on September 9, 2022. The album contains guest appearances from Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Baby, Travis Scott, Don Toliver, Future, Gunna, Lil Durk, RealestK, Bryson Tiller, and Babyface Ray. The bonus version was released on September 14, 2022. It includes an additional guest appearance from Internet Money for the previously-released 2020 single, "Lemonade", their collaboration alongside Gunna and Don Toliver, which features Nav. Production on the album was handled by Nav himself, Tay Keith, Boi-1da, Mike Dean, Wheezy, and Nav's manager, Cash, among others.
