Hincks is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located on the Eyre Peninsula about 253 kilometres (157 miles) west of the state capital of Adelaide. [5]

South Australia is a state in the southern central part of Australia. It covers some of the most arid parts of the country. With a total land area of 983,482 square kilometres (379,725 sq mi), it is the fourth-largest of Australia's states and territories by area, and fifth largest by population. It has a total of 1.7 million people, and its population is the second most highly centralised in Australia, after Western Australia, with more than 77 percent of South Australians living in the capital, Adelaide, or its environs. Other population centres in the state are relatively small; Mount Gambier, the second largest centre, has a population of 28,684.

The Eyre Peninsula is a triangular peninsula in South Australia. It is bounded on the east by Spencer Gulf, the west by the Great Australian Bight, and the north by the Gawler Ranges.

Hincks Wilderness Protection Area Protected area in South Australia

Hincks Wilderness Protection Area is a protected area in the Australian state of South Australia located in the gazetted locality of Hincks about 87 kilometres north of Port Lincoln and 35 kilometres south east of Lock on the Eyre Peninsula. The wilderness protection area was proclaimed under the Wilderness Protection Act 1992 on 30 September 2004 on land excised from the Hincks Conservation Park.

The 2016 Australian census which was conducted in August 2016 reports that Hincks had no people living within its boundaries. [2]

The 2016 Australian census was the seventeenth national population census held in Australia. The census was officially conducted with effect on Tuesday, 9 August 2016. The total population of the Commonwealth of Australia was counted as 23,401,892 – an increase of 8.8 per cent or 1,894,175 people since the 2011 census. Norfolk Island joined the census for the first time in 2016, adding 1,748 to the population.

Hincks is located within the federal division of Grey, the state electoral district of Flinders and the local government areas of the District Council of Cleve and the District Council of Tumby Bay. [8] [7] [1]

The Division of Grey is an Australian electoral division in South Australia. The division was one of the seven established when the former Division of South Australia was redistributed on 2 October 1903 and is named for Sir George Grey, who was Governor of South Australia from 1841 to 1845.

Flinders is a single-member electoral district for the South Australian House of Assembly. It is named after explorer Matthew Flinders, who was responsible for charting most of the state's coastline. It is a 58,901 km² coastal rural electorate encompassing the Eyre Peninsula and the coast along the Nullarbor Plain, based in and around the city of Port Lincoln and contains the District Councils of Ceduna, Cleve, Elliston, Lower Eyre Peninsula, Streaky Bay and Wudinna; as well as the localities of Fowlers Bay, Nullarbor and Yalata in the Pastoral Unincorporated Area. The seat was expanded in 2002 to include a western strip of land all the way to the Western Australia border.

The District Council of Cleve is a local government area on the eastern Eyre Peninsula in South Australia. The district is mostly agricultural in nature, but also encompasses the popular coastal tourist town of Arno Bay.
