A boarding school provides education for pupils who live on the premises, as opposed to a day school. The word "boarding" is used in the sense of "room and board", i.e. lodging and meals. As they have existed for many centuries, and now extend across many countries, their function and ethos varies greatly. Traditionally, pupils stayed at the school for the length of the term; some schools facilitate returning home every weekend, and some welcome day pupils. Some are for either boys or girls while others are co-educational.

Champhai district District of Mizoram in India

Champhai district is one of the eight districts of Mizoram state in India. The district is bounded on the north by Churachandpur district of Manipur state, on the west by Aizawl and Serchhip districts, and on the south and east by Myanmar. The district occupies an area of 3185.83 km². Champhai town is the administrative headquarters of the district.

Mizoram is a state in northeastern India, with Aizawl as its capital city. History

The school was established in 2006, and is a part of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya schools. This school is administered and monitored by Shillong regional office of Navodaya Vidyalaya Smiti. [2]

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) is a system of alternate schools for gifted students in India. They are run by Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, New Delhi, an autonomous organization under the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. JNVs are fully residential and co-educational schools affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi, with classes from VI to XII standard. JNVs are specifically tasked with finding talented children in rural areas of India and providing them with an education equivalent to the best residential school system, without regard to their families' socio-economic condition.

Admission to JNV Khawzawl at class VI level is made through selection test conducted by Navodaya Vidyalaya Smiti. The information about test is disseminated and advertised in district by the office of Champhai district magistrate (Collector), who is also chairperson of Vidyalya Management Committee.
