Jennifer Gillian Newstead is an American attorney who served as the Legal Adviser of the Department of State. [2]
Prior to working at Facebook,she was the Legal Adviser to the United States Department of State,a role confirmed by the US Senate and holding the rank of Assistant Secretary. Prior to that,she was a partner at the large corporate law firm Davis Polk &Wardwell. [3] A graduate of Harvard University (1991) and Yale Law School (1994),Newstead clerked for Justice Stephen Breyer of the Supreme Court of the United States and Judge Laurence Silberman of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. [4] [5] She was also General Counsel of the Office of Management and Budget,Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General at the United States Department of Justice's Office of Legal Policy,and Associate Counsel to the President of the United States. In 2018,Jennifer G. Newstead represented the United States as Agent,Counsel,and Advocate in the case Alleged violations of the 1955 Treaty of Amity,Economic Relations,and Consular Rights (Islamic Republic of Iran v. United States of America) before the International Court of Justice. [16]

The Office of Legal Counsel (OLC) is an office in the United States Department of Justice that supports the attorney general in their role as legal adviser to the president and all executive branch agencies. It drafts legal opinions of the attorney general and provides its own written opinions and other advice in response to requests from the counsel to the president,the various agencies of the executive branch,and other components of the Department of Justice. The office reviews and comments on the constitutionality of pending legislation. The office reviews any executive orders and substantive proclamations for legality if the president proposes them. All proposed orders of the attorney general and regulations that require the attorney general's approval are reviewed. The Office of Special Counsel was an office of the United States Department of Justice established by provisions in the Ethics in Government Act that expired in 1999. The provisions were replaced by Department of Justice regulation 28 CFR Part 600,which created the successor office of special counsel. Executive Order 13769 was signed by U.S. President Donald Trump on January 27,2017,and quickly became the subject of legal challenges in the federal courts of the United States. The order sought to restrict travel from seven Muslim majority countries:Iran,Iraq,Libya,Somalia,Sudan,Syria,and Yemen. The plaintiffs challenging the order argued that it contravened the United States Constitution,federal statutes,or both. On March 16,2017,Executive Order 13769 was superseded by Executive Order 13780,which took legal objections into account and removed Iraq from affected countries. Then on September 24,2017,Executive Order 13780 was superseded by Presidential Proclamation 9645 which is aimed at more permanently establishing travel restrictions on those countries except Sudan,while adding North Korea and Venezuela which had not previously been included.

Engel,who previously worked in the George W. Alleged Violations of the 1955 Treaty of Amity,Economic Relations,and Consular Rights is the formal name of a case in the International Court of Justice (ICJ). Iran filed a lawsuit with the Hague-based ICJ against the United States,on 16 July 2018,mainly based on the 1955 Treaty of Amity signed between the two sides on 15 August 1955 and entered into force in 1957,well before the Islamic revolution of Iran. Iranian officials alleged that U.S. re-imposition of the nuclear sanctions was a violation of the treaty. Iran also filed a request for provisional measures. In response,the United States asserted that the lawsuit as "baseless" and vowed to oppose it. Almost a month later,the ICJ heard the provisional measures request. On 3 October 2018,the International Court of Justice issued a provisional measures order requiring the United States "to lift sanctions linked to humanitarian goods and civil aviation imposed against Iran."
Michael Hun Park is an American lawyer who serves as a United States circuit judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. He was a law clerk to Justice Samuel Alito. Prior to becoming a judge,Park was a named partner at Consovoy McCarthy,a prominent law firm in the conservative legal movement. While at the firm,Park represented the state of Kansas in its efforts to cut Medicaid funding for Planned Parenthood. Judge Park was appointed by President Trump and is a member of the Federalist Society.
