Jordyn Bahl (born July 24,2002) is an American college softball pitcher for Nebraska. As a freshman at Oklahoma in 2022,she was named NFCA National Freshman of the Year.
Bahl attended Papillion-La Vista Senior High School in Papillion,Nebraska. She led the Monarchs to three consecutive Class A state titles and was awarded All-State honors all four years. During her junior year in 2020,she posted a 27–0 record with a 0.15 ERA,surrendering just 27 hits and 24 walks in 139 innings pitched,while striking out 299 batters. She also batted .581 with 59 RBI,tying the Class A single-season record with 22 home runs. Following an outstanding season,she was named the Nebraska Softball Player of the Year. [1]
During her senior year in 2021,she posted a 27–0 record with a 0.10 ERA,surrendering just 27 hits and 15 walks in 137 innings pitched,while striking out 316 batters. She also batted .510 with 20 home runs and 55 RBI. [2] Following an outstanding season she was named Nebraska Softball Player of the Year for the second consecutive year and Gatorade National Softball Player of the Year. [3] [4] [5]
She finished her career at Papillion with a 95–3 record,0.63 ERA,and 978 strikeouts,in 523 innings. She also recorded 63 complete games and one perfect game. [6] [7] Bahl was ranked as the nation's No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2021 by Softball America and Extra Inning Softball. [8] [9]
Bahl made her collegiate debut for Oklahoma on February 10,2022,in a game against UC Santa Barbara. She struck out four of the eight batters she faced in 2+2⁄3 innings. Sophomore Nicole May and graduate transfer Hope Trautwein combined to finish the perfect game for the Sooners. [10] On February 25, she pitched a perfect game against Cal State Fullerton. She struck out 11 in the complete-game performance, allowing no hits or walks to the 18 batters she faced. She became the first Oklahoma freshman to pitch a perfect game since Paige Parker in 2015. [11] She finished the regular season with a 21–1 record, with a 0.95 ERA, 199 strikeouts and 29 walks in 132+1⁄3 innings pitched. She allowed 18 earned runs, while holding opponents to a .137 batting average including seven shutouts. [12] [13]
On May 6, 2022, she suffered an injury during a pregame warm-up for the Saturday game in the regular series finale against Oklahoma State. [14] She didn't pitch during the 2022 Big 12 Conference softball tournament due to suffering arm soreness. [15] She pitched for the first time since returning from injury on June 2, during the first game of the 2022 Women's College World Series against Northwestern. She threw 11 pitches, and allowed two hits while recording just one out. [16] During the Women's College World Series championship game on June 9, she allowed four hits, two runs, three walks and two strikeouts in four innings and earned the win in the title clinching game. Following an outstanding season, she was named Big 12 Freshman of the Year and Co-Big 12 Pitcher of the Year and a unanimous first-team All-Big 12 selection. [17] [18] She was also named a first-team All-American, the NFCA National Freshman of the Year, Softball America Freshman of the Year and a finalist for USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year. During the 2023 season in her sophomore year, she posted a 22–1 record with four saves. During 18 conference games, she posted a 7–0 record with a 0.70 ERA, giving up just four runs. Her seven conference wins were the most of any pitcher while her opposing batting average of .130 in Big 12 games was the lowest of any league pitcher. Following the season she was named a unanimous first-team All-Big 12 selection and the Big 12 Pitcher of the Year for the second consecutive year. [23] During the 2023 Women's College World Series, Bahl posted a 4–0 record with one save in 24+2⁄3 scoreless innings and was subsequently named the Women's College World Series Most Outstanding Player. She became the first pitcher since 1992 to work at least 20 innings at the World Series without allowing a run. [24]
On June 12, 2023, Bahl announced she would enter the NCAA transfer portal. [25] [26] During two seasons at Oklahoma she appeared in 71 games with 46 starts and posted a 44–2 record, 1.00 ERA and 397 strikeouts in 288+2⁄3 innings. Her ERA ranked second in Oklahoma program history and was the lowest since the pitching distance was increased from 40 to 43 feet in 1988. She also posted the second-best winning percentage (.957) and opponent batting average (.153) in program history, and ranked third in strikeouts per seven innings (9.62). [27] [28] On June 15, she announced she was transferring to Nebraska. [29] [30]
On February 8, 2024, during the opening game of the 2024 season against Washington, Bahl suffered a season-ending injury to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her left knee. She took the loss in her Husker debut, pitching 2+1⁄3 innings, allowing two hits, three strikeouts, three earned runs and four walks. [31] It was later announced she would redshirt during the 2024 season and return in 2025. [32] [33]
Taryne Lee Mowatt is an American, former collegiate All-American, right-handed hitting, retired pro softball pitcher. Mowatt is the current pitching coach for Mississippi State. She played college softball at Arizona and helped them win the 2006 and 2007 Women's College World Series. From 2008 to 2013, Mowatt played professionally in National Pro Fastpitch, selected in the 2008 NPF draft by the Washington Glory. She ranks in several pitching categories for the Wildcats and holds the Women's College World Series records for strikeouts and wins.
Chelsea Rae Thomas is an American former collegiate softball pitcher, originally from Pleasantville, Iowa. Thomas pitched for the Missouri Tigers in the Big 12 Conference and Southeastern Conference; Thomas is the career leader in wins and strikeouts for the school. She ranks top-10 for no hitters (11) and perfect games (3) in the NCAA Division I. Thomas and was drafted #20 in the National Pro Fastpitch and won a title in 2014.
Keilani Johanna Ricketts Tumanuvao is an American softball pitcher for the Oklahoma City Spark of the Women's Professional Fastpitch (WPF). She played college softball at Oklahoma from 2010 to 2013, where she was the starting pitcher and helped to lead the Sooners to the national championship in 2013. As a member of the United States women's national softball team she won 2011 World Cup of Softball. Ricketts currently plays for the USSSA Pride in the National Pro Fastpitch. She is the Sooners career leader in wins and strikeouts. She also ranks for career records in both the Big 12 Conference and the NCAA Division I, where she is one three players to win 100 games with 1,000 strikeouts and hit 50 home runs.
Kelly Katlyn Barnhill is an American, former collegiate All-American, professional softball pitcher. She played college softball for the Florida Gators from 2016 to 2019 and was named the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year, Honda Sports Award and espnW Player of the Year in 2017. She is the career no hitters (7), strikeouts, strikeout ratio (10.5) and WHIP leader for the Gators. She also ranks in career strikeout ratio for both the Southeastern Conference and the NCAA Division I.
Sydney Joy Romero is a Mexican American professional softball player and current assistant coach for Oregon. She previously played college softball for the Oklahoma Sooners, where she set numerous program records and led the Sooners to four consecutive Women's College World Series appearances from 2016 to 2019, and won the national championship as a Freshman in 2016 and Sophomore in 2017. She played professionally for the USSSA Pride of National Pro Fastpitch. She represented Mexico at the 2020 Summer Olympics.
Rachel Lauren Garcia is an American former softball pitcher. She most recently served as the pitching coach for UC San Diego. She played college softball for the UCLA Bruins and led the Bruins to the 2019 Women's College World Series championship, where she was named the Most Outstanding Player.
Montana Fay Fouts is an American softball pitcher for the United States women's national softball team. A four-time All-American pitcher at the University of Alabama, she is best known for pitching a perfect game against UCLA in the 2021 Women's College World Series.
Jocelyn Aloha Pumehana Alo is an American professional softball player for the Oklahoma City Spark of the Women's Professional Fastpitch (WPF). She played college softball for the Oklahoma Sooners. Alo was named 2018 NFCA National Freshman of the Year, and named USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year in 2021 and 2022. She is the NCAA Division I career leader in home runs. Alo was drafted first overall by the Smash It Vipers in the inaugural WPF draft.
Alex Ryann Storako is an American softball pitcher for the Oklahoma City Spark of Women's Professional Fastpitch (WPF). She played college softball for Michigan and Oklahoma. As a junior in 2021, she set a Michigan program record with 22 strikeouts in a game and was named Big Ten Pitcher of the Year.
Giselle "G" Juarez is an American, former collegiate All-American softball pitcher. She played college softball at Oklahoma and Arizona State.
Tiare Rose Jennings is an American college softball player for the Oklahoma Sooners. As a freshman in 2021, she was named NFCA National Freshman of the Year, Softball America Freshman of the Year and was selected as a first-team All-American.
Jayda Coleman is an American college softball player for the Oklahoma Sooners. She also represented the United States at the 2019 U-19 Women's Softball World Cup and USA Softball International Cup.
Megan Ki'llani Faraimo is an American professional softball pitcher. She played college softball at UCLA from 2019 to 2023, where she was named a three-time All-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). As a sophomore in 2020, she was named Softball America Pitcher of the Year. Faraimo played in Athletes Unlimited Softball, where she named the 2023 Athletes Unlimited Rookie of the Year.
Aleshia Ocasio is a professional American softball player. She played college softball at Florida. Ocasio most recently played in the Athletes Unlimited Softball, where she won the 2021 championship as the top individual points leader. She has been a member of the Puerto Rico women's national softball team since 2015.
The 2022 NCAA Division I softball season, part of college softball in the United States organized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division I level, began in February 2022. The season progressed through the regular season, many conference tournaments and championship series, and concluded with the 2022 NCAA Division I softball tournament and 2022 Women's College World Series. The Women's College World Series, consisting of the eight remaining teams in the NCAA Tournament and held annually in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium, ended in June 2022.
Georgina Louise Corrick is a British born, American raised professional softball player for Athletes Unlimited Softball. She played college softball for the South Florida Bulls. She is also a member of the Great Britain women's national softball team. In 2022, she was the first pitching Triple Crown winner in NCAA Division I history. In 2024, she was inducted into the British Softball Hall of Fame.
Danielle Lauren Williams is an American college softball player for the Northwestern Wildcats. As a freshman in 2019, she was named NFCA National Freshman of the Year.
Hope Trautwein is a former American college softball pitcher and current assistant coach for the Houston Cougars. She previously played softball for North Texas, where she pitched the first perfect game in NCAA Division I history in which every out was a strikeout.
NiJaree Canady is an American college softball pitcher for the Stanford Cardinal. As a freshman in 2023, she was named NFCA National Freshman of the Year.
The 2024 Oklahoma Sooners softball team will be an American college softball team that represents the University of Oklahoma during the 2024 NCAA Division I softball season. The Sooners will be led by Patty Gasso in her thirtieth season, and play their home games at Love's Field as a member of the Big 12 Conference. This will be the Sooners' first season at Love's Field.
