Kiran Vyas (born 31 March 1944) is a French Yoga instructor and Ayurveda practitioner, known for his contributions to the field of Ayurveda in France. [1] In the early 80s, when the practice was still relatively unknown, he introduced Ayurveda to the country. [2] [3]

Life

Vyas was born on March 31, 1944, in Gujarat, India. He studied under notable people such as Sri Aurobindo and practiced Hatha Yoga with Shri Ambu. [4] He founded the Tapovan Open University of Yoga and Ayurveda in France, [5] where He advocates for a holistic approach to health that encompasses physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. [6] [7]

He has previously worked with UNESCO and several non-governmental organizations (NGOs) [8] as a yoga instructor. [9] [10]

Awards

In 2024, Kiran Vyas was presented with the Padma Shri Award by the Government of India for his contributions to the field of Yoga, presented by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu. [11] [12]

Bhalla was awarded the Padma Shri in 2010 for his contribution to the medical field science. The Padma Shri award is the fourth highest civilian honor in Republic of India. Dr. Bhalla also has served as a secretary of The Peritoneal Dialysis Society of India (PDSI) and he still holds the position of Chairperson of Industrial Liaison committee.

P. R. Krishna Kumar was an Indian Ayurveda expert and managing director of The Arya Vaidya Pharmacy (Coimbatore) Ltd. He established The Ayurvedic Trust, overseeing AVCRI and AVP Research Foundation, a non-profit organisation promoting research in the Ayurveda. He was the chancellor of the Avinashilingam University, and the chairman of CARe Keralam, a resource centre involved in efforts to standardise Ayurvedic medicines. The Government of India awarded him the fourth-highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri, in 2009, for his contributions to Ayurveda.

Nouf Marwaai is a Yoga instructor in Saudi Arabia. She is the founder of the Arab Yoga Foundation in Saudi Arabia. Nouf Marwaai has contributed to the legalization of Yoga and to it receiving official recognition in Saudi Arabia. She was awarded India's fourth highest civilian award the Padma Shri in 2018.

V. Nanammal was India's oldest yoga teacher. She trained one million students over 45 years and taught one hundred students daily. Six hundred of her students have become yoga instructors around the world.

Gurdip Singh is a professor from Gwalior, India. He is a senior professor of Ayurveda and the Director of Post Graduate Studies at the SDM College of Ayurveda and Hospital in Hassan, Karnataka. He is considered an authority on the Ayurveda work Charaka Samhita. Singh was a dean of Institute for Post Graduate Teaching and Research in Ayurveda at Gujarat Ayurved University at Jamnagar, Gujarat.

Deshamanya Vajira Chitrasena was a Sri Lankan traditional dancer, choreographer and teacher. Vajira is regarded as Sri Lanka's first prima ballerina. She is the first Sri Lankan woman to practise the traditional Kandyan dance which was traditionally performed only by men. Vajira is credited with creating brand for a female style of Kandyan dancing and setting the tone for women to become ritual dancers. She was married to Chitrasena who was a well known legendary dancer and dance guru.

Avadh Kishore Jadia is a poet and author in the Bundeli language and the Braj language from the Chhatarpur district in the Indian State of Madhya Pradesh. He was also an Ayurveda medical practitioner in the Madhya Pradesh Govt Service. In the year 2022, Govt of India honored him by conferring the Padma Shri award for his contributions as an author in the Bundeli and Braj languages.

Rutger Kortenhorst is a teacher of Sanskrit in John Scottus Senior School in Dublin, Ireland. John Scottus School is a private school which has been teaching Sanskrit as a compulsory subject since its inception in 1986. In 2022, the Government of India honored him with the Padma Shri award for his dedicated work to propagate the Sanskrit language in Ireland.

Sakini Ramachandraih was an Indian vocal folk singer and Dhol player from the Bhadradri town in the Telangana State in India. He was known for his expertise in "Kanchumelam-Kanchuthalam" an art form particularly identified with the Koya tribal community in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. This art form is almost on the verge of extinction and Ramachandraih was the only surviving practitioner of the art who could narrate the history of the sacred festival "Sammakka Sarakka Jathara" in both the Telugu and Koya languages in its totality. In the year 2022, the Government of India honoured Ramachandraiah by conferring the Padma Shri award for his contributions to art.

Charlotte Chopin is a French Yoga instructor recognized for her significant contributions to the field of yoga in France and her advocacy for its benefits on holistic well-being. In 2024, she was awarded the Padma Shri by India, marking her international recognition.

Uday Vishwanath Deshpande is an Indian Mallakhamb coach and Padma Shri awardee recognized for his contributions to the Indian sport of Mallakhamb. Deshpande has been instrumental in promoting Mallakhamb at a global level, conducting workshops and training sessions in over 48 countries.

Sanjay Anant Patil is an Indian farmer from Ponda, Goa, known for his work in natural farming and zero-energy micro-irrigation systems. In February 2024, Patil was awarded the Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian honor, for his contributions to natural farming.

Kundan Vyas is an Indian journalist who served as President of The Indian Newspaper Society. He is the recipient of Padma Bhushan, third highest civilian award in India and Lokmanya Tilak National Award for Excellence in Journalism.

Chandrakant Sompura is an Indian architect based in Ahmedabad. He is known for his designs of Temples. He is the architect of Shree Ram Janmbhoomi Mandir. In 2025, he is conferred Padma Shri for his contribution in the field of Architecture.
