La Rue is a small unincorporated community in the town of Freedom, in Sauk County, Wisconsin, United States. [1] [2] It is located on a spur line of the former Chicago and North Western Railway. Heritage railway excursions from the Mid-Continent Railway Museum, in North Freedom, Wisconsin, go through La Rue.

The community was named for W. G. La Rue, who held local mining interests. [3]

Elroy-Sparta State Trail

The Elroy-Sparta State Trail is a 32.5-mile (52.3 km) Wisconsin State rail trail between Elroy and Sparta, Wisconsin. Considered to be the first rail trail when it opened in 1967, it was designed for foot, bicycle, equestrian and light motorized traffic.
