The Limidae or file shells are members of the only family of bivalve molluscs in the order Limida. [1] The family includes 130 living species, assigned to 10 genera. Widely distributed in all seas from shallow to deep waters, the species are usually epifaunal or nestling, with many species building byssal nests for protection. The majority of species are capable of irregular swimming by waving their long mantle tentacles.
Mactridae, common name the trough shells or duck clams, is a family of saltwater clams, marine bivalve mollusks in the order Venerida.
Periplomatidae is a family of large marine bivalves of the Anomalodesmata order.
Acesta is a genus of marine bivalve molluscs in the family Limidae.
The Plicatulidae are a family of saltwater clams, marine bivalve mollusks, known commonly as kitten's paws or kittenpaws. These bivalves are related to oysters and scallops. The family has a single living genus, Plicatula, with a second, Harpax known from fossils.
Isognomonidae is a family of medium-sized to large saltwater clams. They are pearl oysters, marine bivalve molluscs in the superfamily Pterioidea
Sportellidae is a family of marine bivalve molluscs of the superfamily Cyamioidea.
Crassatellidae is a family of small saltwater clams, marine bivalve molluscs of the order Carditida.
Pandoridae is a taxonomic family of small saltwater clams, marine bivalves in the order Anomalodesmata.
Lyrodus is a genus of ship-worms, marine bivalve molluscs of the family Teredinidae.
Isognomon is a genus of marine bivalve mollusks which is related to the pearl oysters.
Hyotissa is a genus of large saltwater oysters, marine bivalve mollusks in the family Gryphaeidae.
Gregariella is a genus of mussels in the family Mytilidae.
Lamelliconcha circinata, common name the "purple venus clam", is a species of bivalve mollusc in the family Veneridae, the venus clams. This species can be found around the coasts of the islands in the West Indies.
Pholas is a taxonomic genus of marine bivalve molluscs in the subfamily Pholadinae of the family Pholadidae.
Sanguinolaria tellinoides is a species of saltwater clam, marine bivalve molluscs of the family Psammobiidae.
The Anomioidea are a superfamily of marine bivalve molluscs that include two families, the Anomiidae and the Placunidae, the jingle shells and saddle shells. They are mainly sessile bivalves that superficially resemble true oysters. Though they are pleurothetic, however, the Anomioidea attach via their right valve rather than the usual left. Their irregular shells are inequilateral, are round to oval, with a large byssal notch. The byssus itself is usually short and plug-like. The left valve is convex, and the hinge is considered edentulous.
Cyrenidae is a family of clams in the order Venerida.
Radiolucina is a genus of bivalves belonging to the family Lucinidae.
Pleurolucina is a genus of saltwater clams, marine bivalve molluscs in the subfamily Lucininae of the family Lucinidae.
Spathochlamys is a genus of scallops, marine bivalve molluscs in the taxonomic subfamily Pedinae of the family Pectinidae.
