The players auction for the 2012 Indian Premier League (fifth season) was held on 4 February 2012 in Bangalore. [20] Each player in the auction pool had a base price under which franchise owners cannot bid. Players were allowed to set their base price between $20,000 to $400,000. The auction was telecast live on SET Max, the official broadcaster of IPL. [21]
IPL authority increased the number of players in each squad to 33 from the previous limit of 30 and also increased the salary cap by $2 million. [20] Each team can have a maximum of 11 overseas players in their squad and they can spend up to $2 million at auction.
The players of Kochi Tuskers Kerala were included in the players auction. [22] Kochi was terminated by the BCCI in September 2011.

Pune Warriors India was a franchise Twenty20 cricket team that represented the city of Pune in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The team was one of two IPL franchises from the Indian state of Maharashtra, the other being Mumbai Indians. It was one of two new franchises added to the IPL for the 2011 season, alongside the also-defunct Kochi Tuskers Kerala. The team was owned by Sahara Group Sports Limited, a group company of the Indian business conglomerate Sahara India Pariwar. The 2014 Indian Premier League season was the seventh season of the Indian Premier League, a professional Twenty20 cricket league established by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2007. The tournament featured eight teams, one fewer than in 2013 after the withdrawal of the Pune Warriors India, and was held from 16 April 2014 to 1 June 2014. The opening ceremony was held in the UAE on 15 April 2014. Kolkata Knight Riders won the tournament, defeating Kings XI Punjab by 3 wickets with Manish Pandey declared the man of the match in the final. The average attendance for the tournament was 31,751.
Chennai Super Kings were one of the ten teams that took part in the 2011 Indian Premier League. They were captained for the fourth season in succession by Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The Super Kings had won both 2010 Indian Premier League and 2010 Champions League Twenty20 under Dhoni's captaincy.
Sunrisers Hyderabad are a professional franchise cricket team based in Hyderabad, Telangana, India, that plays in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The franchise is owned by Kalanithi Maran of the SUN Group and was founded in 2012 after the Hyderabad-based Deccan Chargers were terminated by the IPL. The team is currently coached by Daniel Vettori and captained by Pat Cummins. Their primary home ground is the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad, which has a capacity of 39,000.
Royal Challengers Bangalore were one of the ten teams that took part in the 2011 Indian Premier League. They were captained by former New Zealand skipper Daniel Vettori and coached by Ray Jennings. They finished as runners-up of the tournament after losing to Chennai Super Kings in the final. With this, they qualified for the 2011 Champions League Twenty20, where they again finished runners-up after losing the final to the Mumbai Indians.
