List of FIBA Intercontinental Cup participants

The FIBA Intercontinental Cup is an international basketball competition organised by FIBA, the sport's global governing body. The champions of the competition are considered the de jure champions of the world, as representatives from all confederation can participate in the competition.

Contents

The current competitions is played by the winners of each year's Basketball Africa League (BAL), Basketball Champions League (BCL), Basketball Champions League Americas (BCL Americas), Basketball Champions League Asia (BCL Asia), National Basketball League (NBL) and the NBA G League.

In the modern era of the FIBA Intercontinental Cup, that was restored in 2013, the confederations can each send one team to the tournament.

Africa

Since the 2022, FIBA Africa send the champions of the Basketball Africa League (BAL) to compete. As of today, a team from the BAL has yet to win a game in the competition.

Real Madrid have contested the Intercontinental Cup twelve times, a record. The United States hold the record for the nation with the most different teams, with 20 teams having played in the competition.

The 2017 FIBA Intercontinental Cup was the 27th edition of the FIBA Intercontinental Cup. The cup winner was decided through one game, which was held on September 24, 2017. It was contested by the 2017 FIBA Americas League champions, Guaros de Lara, and the 2017 FIBA Champions League champions, Iberostar Tenerife. The title game was held at the Santiago Martín, in San Cristóbal de La Laguna. Champions of the EuroLeague were not allowed to participate by FIBA, due to the EuroLeague's dispute with FIBA.

The 2020 FIBA Intercontinental Cup was the 29th edition of the FIBA Intercontinental Cup. The tournament was held on 7 and 9 February 2020 in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, on the Spanish island of Tenerife. It was the second time in three years the tournament is held in Tenerife after 2017.

The 2023 FIBA Intercontinental Cup was the 32nd edition of the FIBA Intercontinental Cup. The tournament was held on 10 and 12 February 2023 in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, on the Spanish island of Tenerife. It was the third time that the tournament is held in Tenerife after 2017 and 2020.

The 2024 FIBA Intercontinental Cup will be the 34th edition of the FIBA Intercontinental Cup. The tournament will be hosted at the Singapore Indoor Stadium for a second consecutive year under a three-year agreement with the Singaporean government. It is the second time the tournament is hosted in Asia. For the first time in competition history, a team from Oceania is included and five continents represented.
