The German carmaker Mercedes-Benz entered the battery electric vehicle market with the unveiling of the Generation EQ concept car at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. At the same show, Mercedes-Benz announced the creation of a new sub-brand called "Mercedes-EQ". [3] [4]

Mercedes-Benz debuted the EQA concept at the 2017 International Motor Show Germany. [5] The production version of the Generation EQ concept, and the first car in the Mercedes-EQ series, debuted publicly at the 2018 Paris Motor Show in the form of the "EQC". [6] [7] [8] Mercedes-Benz unveiled the EQV at the Geneva Motor Show in 2018. [9] The carmaker revealed the Vision EQS, a large luxury concept saloon, at the 2019 edition of the International Motor Show Germany. [10] [11] [12] In 2021, Mercedes-Benz debuted a series of vehicles: the production version of the EQA, a subcompact luxury crossover SUV, [13] [14] on 25 January; [15] the production version of the EQS on 15 April; [16] the EQB, a compact luxury crossover SUV, [17] [18] on 18 April; [19] the EQE, an executive saloon, [20] on 5 September; [21] [22] and the EQG—an electrified concept car version of the G-Class—also on 5 September. Mercedes-Benz introduced the EQS SUV and the EQE SUV on 19 April 2022 and 16 October 2022, respectively. [24] [25] An electrified version of the T-Class van, called the "EQT", was revealed online as a concept car in May 2021, with the production model debuting in December 2022. [26] [27] As well as the production vehicles, Mercedes-Benz has also produced several concept cars, including the EQXX and the EQ Silver Arrow. [28] [29] [30]

The production version was revealed in August 2013 ahead of the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show in September 2013.

Shenzhen BYD New Energy Co., Ltd., trading as Denza, is an automobile manufacturing company headquartered in Shenzhen, China, specialising in luxury electric cars and a joint venture between BYD Auto Industry and the Mercedes-Benz Group. Founded in May 2010, in late 2014 the company introduced its first model, the Denza EV. The car was initially put on sale in selected Chinese cities only. In late 2021, Denza underwent a restructuring as Mercedes-Benz reduced its share to 10%, while BYD held the rest.

More variants are said to follow later, including a 4Matic AWD dual-motor setup with a peak engine power output of up to 500 kW (671 hp). The U.S. will get one version simply called the Mercedes AMG EQE which is the same 617-hp EQE 53 4matic+ seen in Europe.
