The South Korea national football team represents South Korea in men's international football and is governed by the Korea Football Association. South Korea has emerged as a major football power in Asia since the 1980s, having participated in ten consecutive and eleven overall FIFA World Cup tournaments, the most for any Asian country. Despite initially going through five World Cup tournaments without winning a match, South Korea became the first Asian team to reach the semi-finals when they co-hosted the 2002 tournament with Japan. South Korea also won two AFC Asian Cup titles, and finished as runners-up on four occasions. Furthermore, the team won three gold medals and three silver medals at the senior Asian Games.
The United States men's national tennis team represents the United States in Davis Cup tennis competition, and is governed by the United States Tennis Association.

The 1981 Davis Cup was the 70th edition of the Davis Cup, the most important tournament between national teams in men's tennis. 53 teams would enter the competition, 16 in the World Group, 23 in the Europe Zone, 8 in the Americas Zone, and 6 in the Eastern Zone.
The 1989 Davis Cup was the 78th edition of the Davis Cup, the most important tournament between national teams in men's tennis. This year's tournament saw the expansion of the previous World Group Relegation Play-offs round into the World Group Qualifying Round; instead of advancing directly to the World Group, the Zonal Group I winners would now join the World Group first round losers for a chance to compete in the following year's World Group. This year also marked the introduction of the tiebreak, played at 6–6 in all sets except for the final set.
The 1990 Davis Cup was the 79th edition of the Davis Cup, the most important tournament between national teams in men's tennis. 85 teams would enter the competition, 16 in the World Group, 19 in the Americas Zone, 19 in the Asia/Oceania Zone, and 31 in the Europe/Africa Zone. Barbados, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Togo, Trinidad and Tobago and Zambia made their first appearances in the tournament.
The South Korea Fed Cup team represents South Korea in Fed Cup tennis competition and are governed by the Korea Tennis Association. They currently compete in the Asia/Oceania Zone of Group I.
Seoul Olympic Park Tennis Center is a tennis venue in Seoul, South Korea, located in the Olympic Park. It hosted the tennis events for the 1988 Summer Olympics and has hosted several South Korea Davis Cup team and South Korea Fed Cup team ties. The center currently hosts the Hansol Korea Open Tennis Championships. The main stadium has a capacity of 10,000 people. The No.1 court has a capacity of 3,500, and the other 12 courts have a capacity of 900.
The World Group was the highest level of Davis Cup competition in 1981. It was the first edition of the newly-formed 16-team World Group and a move to a tiered system including promotion and relegation. The original 16 teams to compete were chosen through the previous year's results, with teams that reached the 1980 Zonal semifinals chosen to compete in the inaugural bracket. The first-round losers would play in the Davis Cup World Group Relegation Play-offs, with the four losers relegated to their respective Zonal competitions the following year and replaced by the four winners of the current year's Zonal competitions.

Kwon Soon-woo is a South Korean professional tennis player. He has been ranked as high as world No. 52 ranking by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), which he first achieved in November 2021. He also has a career-high doubles ranking of world No. 227, attained in October 2022. Since turning professional in 2015, Kwon has won two ATP, five ITF World Tennis Tour and three ATP Challenger Tour singles titles.

The 2020 Davis Cup Qualifying Round was held on 6–7 March. The twelve winners of this round would qualify for the 2020 Davis Cup Finals while the twelve losers would qualify for the 2020 Davis Cup World Group I.

The 1997 Davis Cup World Group Qualifying Round was held from 20 to 22 September. They were the main play-offs of the 1997 Davis Cup. The winners of the playoffs advanced to the 1998 Davis Cup World Group, and the losers were relegated to their respective Zonal Regions I.
The Finals, formerly known as World Group, is the highest level of Davis Cup competition in 2022. It took place from 13 to 18 September and from 22 to 27 November 2022. The ties were contested in a best-of-three rubbers format and played on one day. There were two singles followed by a doubles. The Russian Tennis Federation were the defending champions, but they were banned from competing in international events following the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. Canada won the title, defeating Australia in the final. It was Canada's first ever Davis Cup title. On 13 March 2022, ITF announced that Serbia, which had been awarded a wild card for the 2022 Finals, had replaced the Russian Tennis Federation as the highest-ranked losing semi-finalist in the 2021 Finals. On 17 March 2022, ITF announced that Canada will compete in the Finals as the replacement wild card.
