The 1946 Davis Cup was the 35th edition of the most important tournament between national teams in men's tennis. The trophy and tournament were renamed for the founder, Dwight F. Davis, upon his death in 1945. This was the first edition since the end of World War II. 15 teams entered the Europe Zone, and 5 teams entered the America Zone.

Contents

The United States defeated Mexico in the America Zone final, and Sweden defeated Yugoslavia in the Europe Zone final. The USA defeated Sweden in the Inter-Zonal play-off, and then defeated defending champions Australia in the Challenge Round. The final was played at Kooyong Stadium in Melbourne, Australia on 26–30 December. [1] [2] [3]

The 1936 International Lawn Tennis Challenge was the 31st edition of what is now known as the Davis Cup. Due to the low number of competing South American teams, the North & Central America and South America Zones were scrapped and the Americas played in one unified zone. Play took place on Asian soil for the first time, when the Philippines hosted Pakistan in Manila for their first-round Europe Zone tie.

The 1951 Davis Cup was the 40th edition of the most important tournament between national teams in men's tennis. 21 teams entered the Europe Zone, and 5 teams entered the America Zone. The Europe Zone began using a seeding system, where the previous year's quarterfinalists were guaranteed a bye in the first round.

The 1954 Davis Cup was the 43rd edition of the Davis Cup, the most important tournament between national teams in men's tennis. 23 teams entered the Europe Zone and 7 teams entered the America Zone. The Eastern Zone was abandoned for this year and India, the sole competing country, was moved to the Europe Zone.

The 1979 Davis Cup was the 68th edition of the Davis Cup, the most important tournament between national teams in men's tennis. 52 teams would enter the competition, 29 in the Europe Zone, 13 in the Americas Zone, and 10 in the Eastern Zone.
