The World Group was the highest level of Davis Cup competition in 1984. [1]

Contents

Australia were the defending champions, but were eliminated in the semifinals.

Sweden won the title, defeating the United States in the final, 4–1. The final was held at the Scandinavium in Gothenburg, Sweden, from 16 to 18 December. [2] It was the Swedish team's first Davis Cup title since 1975 and their 2nd Davis Cup title overall.

Singapore and Senegal made their first appearances in the tournament.

The 1987 Davis Cup was the 76th edition of the Davis Cup, the most important tournament between national teams in men's tennis. 72 teams would enter the competition, 16 in the World Group, 32 in the Europe Zone, 13 in the Eastern Zone, and 11 in the Americas Zone.

The 1989 Davis Cup was the 78th edition of the Davis Cup, the most important tournament between national teams in men's tennis. This year's tournament saw the expansion of the previous World Group Relegation Play-offs round into the World Group Qualifying Round; instead of advancing directly to the World Group, the Zonal Group I winners would now join the World Group first round losers for a chance to compete in the following year's World Group. This year also marked the introduction of the tiebreak, played at 6–6 in all sets except for the final set.

The World Group Play-offs were the main play-offs of 2010 Davis Cup. Winners advanced to the World Group, and loser were relegated in the Zonal Regions I.

The World Group was the highest level of Davis Cup competition in 1981. It was the first edition of the newly-formed 16-team World Group and a move to a tiered system including promotion and relegation. The original 16 teams to compete were chosen through the previous year's results, with teams that reached the 1980 Zonal semifinals chosen to compete in the inaugural bracket. The first-round losers would play in the Davis Cup World Group Relegation Play-offs, with the four losers relegated to their respective Zonal competitions the following year and replaced by the four winners of the current year's Zonal competitions.

The 2001 Davis Cup World Group Qualifying Round was held from 21 September to 14 October. They were the main play-offs of the 2001 Davis Cup. The winners of the playoffs advanced to the 2002 Davis Cup World Group, and the losers were relegated to their respective Zonal Regions I.

The 2000 Davis Cup World Group Qualifying Round was held from 14 to 23 July. They were the main play-offs of the 2000 Davis Cup. The winners of the playoffs advanced to the 2001 Davis Cup World Group, and the losers were relegated to their respective Zonal Regions I.

The 1999 Davis Cup World Group Qualifying Round was held from 24 to 26 September. They were the main play-offs of the 1999 Davis Cup. The winners of the playoffs advanced to the 2000 Davis Cup World Group, and the losers were relegated to their respective Zonal Regions I.

The 1998 Davis Cup World Group Qualifying Round was held from 25 to 28 September. They were the main play-offs of the 1998 Davis Cup. The winners of the playoffs advanced to the 1999 Davis Cup World Group, and the losers were relegated to their respective Zonal Regions I.

The Europe Zone was one of the two regional zones of the 1928 International Lawn Tennis Challenge.

The 1992 Davis Cup World Group Qualifying Round was held from 25 to 27 September. They were the main play-offs of the 1992 Davis Cup. The winners of the playoffs advanced to the 1993 Davis Cup World Group, and the losers were relegated to their respective Zonal Regions I.
