Italy defeated Australia 2-0 in the tennis final of the 2023 Davis Cup. It was Italy's second Davis Cup title, having previously won in 1976. [1]

Contents

The Finals, formerly known as World Group, is the highest level of Davis Cup competition in 2023. It took place from 12 to 17 September and from 21 to 26 November 2023. The ties are contested in a best-of-three rubbers format and played on one day. There are two singles followed by a doubles. [2] Canada was the defending champion, but lost in the quarterfinals to Finland.

Seeds

The seedings were based on the Davis Cup Ranking of 6 February 2023. The winner of the 2022 Finals Canada were seeded No. 1 and Australia, as runners-up in 2022, were seeded No. 2, with Spain and Croatia also seeded based on the latest Davis Cup nations ranking.

The remaining 12 nations were distributed in Pots 2–4 according to the latest Davis Cup nations ranking. Four host nations, Croatia, Great Britain, Italy and Spain were placed in different groups. [11]

Format

The 16 teams were divided in four round robin groups of four teams each. The top two teams in each group qualified for the quarterfinals. [2] Group A was hosted in Bologna, Group B was hosted in Manchester, Group C was hosted in Valencia, and Group D was hosted in Split. [12] [13]

The Finals, formerly known as World Group, was the highest level of Davis Cup competition in 2019. It was held on indoor hard courts at the Caja Mágica in Madrid, Spain from 18 until 24 November. The ties were contested in a best-of-three rubbers format and were played on one day. There were two singles followed by a doubles.

The 2020–21 Davis Cup was the 109th edition of the Davis Cup, a tournament between national teams in men's tennis. It was sponsored by Rakuten. For this edition, the format of the cup was changed. The new format saw the creation of a Davis Cup World Group I and World Group II which was played on a worldwide basis and replaced the regional Group I and Group II. As a result, the Davis Cup nations ranking was no longer used to determine which group a nation was played in. Previous the 2019, and the 2021 finals host Spain were the defending champions. The Russian Tennis Federation won the title, defeating Croatia in the final. Andrey Rublev was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament after going 6–1 in both singles and doubles.

Canada defeated Australia 2–0 in the final of the 2022 Davis Cup. It was the 110th edition of the Davis Cup, an international competition between teams in men's tennis, and was sponsored by Rakuten. The Russian Tennis Federation were the defending champions, but they and Belarus were disqualified from competing in international events due to the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.

On 13 March 2022, ITF announced that Serbia, which had been awarded a wild card for the 2022 Finals, had replaced the Russian Tennis Federation as the highest-ranked losing semi-finalist in the 2021 Finals. On 17 March 2022, ITF announced that Canada will compete in the Finals as the replacement wild card.

The 2023 Davis Cup qualifying round was held from 3 to 5 February 2023. The twelve winners of this round qualified for the 2023 Davis Cup Finals while the twelve losers qualified for the 2023 Davis Cup World Group I.

The 2024 Davis Cup qualifying round was held from 1 to 4 February 2024. The twelve winners of this round qualified for the 2024 Davis Cup Finals while the twelve losers will play at the 2024 Davis Cup World Group I.
