Adele's 21 was the longest-running number-one album, having topped the ARIA Albums Chart for twenty-three weeks in 2011 and an additional nine weeks in 2012.

The ARIA Albums Chart ranks the best-performing albums and extended plays in Australia. Its data, published by the Australian Recording Industry Association, is based collectively on each album and EP's weekly physical and digital sales. [1] In 2011, sixteen albums claimed the top spot, including Pink's Greatest Hits... So Far!!! , which started its peak position in late 2010. Seven acts achieved their first number-one album in Australia: The Strokes, Britney Spears, Drapht, Adele, Gotye, Florence and the Machine, and Nickelback. [2]

Formed in Hanna, Alberta in 1995 by Chad Kroeger, Ryan Peake, Mike Kroeger and Brandon Kroeger, the band issued its debut album Curb in 1996 through non-profit organization FACTOR, followed by a self-released follow-up The State in 1998. That year, Ryan Vikedal took over on drums after a brief tenure for Mitch Guindon. In late 1999 the group signed with Roadrunner Records, who issued The State internationally early the next year. Here and Now is the seventh studio album by Canadian rock band Nickelback, and is their last to be released on Roadrunner Records. The album was released on November 21, 2011. It is the follow-up to their multi-platinum selling Dark Horse in 2008. On September 26, the band officially released two singles, "When We Stand Together" and "Bottoms Up". Both songs were made available for download on September 27, 2011. The first track of the record, "This Means War", was released on November 10, 2011 as the third single. The album's cover features Vancouver's Gastown Steam Clock. The clock is set at 11:21, the date the album was released.

Belgian-Australian singer Gotye has released three studio albums, one remix album, one live album, one collaborative album, one video album, eleven singles, and at least twenty music videos. Having developed a passion for music in his childhood years, he began his musical career as the lead singer of Australian rock band Downstares. Following the group's dissolution, Gotye turned his interest to creating sample-based electronic music; he sent out demo tapes of his music to several Australian radio stations. In 2002, he formed the indie pop band The Basics with fellow singer-songwriter Kris Schroeder. Gotye later signed to Creative Vibes as a solo artist and released his debut studio album Boardface in February 2003.

The ARIA Digital Album Chart ranks the highest selling legally downloaded music albums within Australia and is provided by the Australian Recording Industry Association.
