A manor once existed within the village, with the much older village of Longdon existing as far back as the Saxon era. The village of Longdon Green was originally part of the then-extensive Forest of Arden, when it was later under the control of the Bishop of Lichfield until 1546. It was then surrendered to Henry VIII, who granted ownership of the land to William Paget, 1st Baron Paget. After the ownership was given, the Manor of Longdon was established in the area which spanned as far as Burntwood, Hammerwich and Longdon. The manor was transferred to Longdon Green itself. In 1597, freeholders of the land were granted permission to graze on the land which spanned 800 acres of heathland by the manor. [2] [3]
