Marijin Dvor or Marindvor (Cyrillic : Маријин Двор or Мариндвор; English: Mary's Palace) is a neighborhood in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The neighborhood is noted for buildings from the Austro-Hungarian Empire era. [1]

In the neighborhood are several significant buildings; National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Holiday Inn Sarajevo, UNITIC World Trade Towers, Sarajevo City Center, Greece–Bosnia and Herzegovina Friendship Building (old Parliament building pre-1992), Hastahana and others.

The Holiday Inn Sarajevo was the home of foreign correspondents during the 1984 Winter Olympics and throughout the siege of Sarajevo during the Bosnian War.

The UNITIC Twin Skyscrapers were built in the 1980s. They were colloquially named "Momo and Uzeir" after two characters from a radio comedy show, a Serb and a Bosniak. The towers were heavily damaged by shelling during the siege but remained standing, becoming symbols of resilience. [2] They were renovated after the war.

Fudbalski klub Slavija Sarajevo is a professional association football club from the city of Istočno Sarajevo, Republika Srpska that is situated in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Slavija Sarajevo is a member of the Football Association of Republika Srpska and the Football Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina and it is active in the First League of the Republika Srpska. The United Investment and Trading Company (UNITIC), formerly UNIS Holding BiH, is a joint venture company between UNIS Holding and Kuwait Consulting & Investment Co. The company owns and operates the 346-foot UNITIC Twin Skyscrapers in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The company was formed in 1998 and has since then invested KM 45 million in renovating the UNITIC Business Center.

Avaz Twist Tower Architectural structure

The Avaz Twist Tower is a 40 story, 172m tall skyscraper in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is the headquarters for Dnevni avaz, a Bosnian newspaper company. The tower is located in the Marijin Dvor city neighborhood, Sarajevo's central municipality. Construction began in 2006 and was finished two years later in 2008. The tower is notable for its twisted facade. From 2008 until 2021, it was the tallest skyscraper in the former Yugoslavia. Trams in Sarajevo

The Sarajevo tram network is one of Europe's oldest, having originally served as the test line for Vienna's trams. Despite the claims on several websites, it was not the first network to operate full-time. As of 2010, the Sarajevo tram system consists of seven lines, running along a single route with a 0.4 kilometres (0.25 mi)-long branch to the city's main railway station (Željeznička Stanica). It primarily serves as an east-west link from the city centre (Baščaršija) to the western suburb of Ilidža.

Karel Pařík Czech-born Bosnian architect

Karel Pařík was a Czech-born architect in the Austro-Hungarian empire. Pařík spent most of his life in Sarajevo where he designed over seventy major buildings, which are today classified among the most beautiful in Bosnia and Herzegovina. For Bosnians, he is also known as Karlo Paržik and is considered as "The builder of Sarajevo". He died working on his last project, Sarajevo City Hall, which later became one of the symbols of the city. "Czech by birth, Sarajevan by choice" stands encrypted on his gravestone in Sarajevo.
