Martin & Vleminckx is a roller coaster manufacturing and construction company headquartered in Montreal, Quebec, Canada [1] with an affiliated office in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, a manufacturing facility in Haines City, Florida, United States, and two subsidiaries, including a warehouse, in China.

History

Martin & Vleminckx, founded in 1984, is a world leader in the design, manufacture, fabrication and installation of traditional wooden roller coasters.

In November 2022, Martin & Vleminckx acquired the patent portfolio of Bill Kitchen that includes products such as the Unicoaster®, the Unicoaster® 2.0, the SkyBlazer™, the Skyspire™, the Polercoaster™, the G-Storm™, the Vistawheel™ and the Thrillwheel™.

The company offer an innovative and exciting attractions catalogue of products to serve the amusement park and recreational industry.

Projects

Since 1984, Martin & Vleminckx has erected over 100 roller coasters and other amusement rides manufactured by a variety of companies from around the world. Including: Bolliger & Mabillard, [2] Chance Morgan, [3] Hopkins Rides, [4] [5] Intamin, [6] Maurer AG, [7] ProSlide Technology, [8] Vekoma, [9] Zamperla, [10] Martin & Vleminckx installed the two tallest roller coasters in the world; Kingda Ka in New Jersey, and Top Thrill Dragster in Ohio. Martin & Vleminckx has built wooden roller coasters all over the world. Some key rides include the Fireball, the first wooden roller coaster ever built in China, and the Leviathan, the first wooden roller coaster in Australia since 1985. Most roller coasters manufactured by Martin & Vleminckx were designed by The Gravity Group.


Martin & Vleminckx also conducts repair and maintenance works on coasters around the world including Boulder Dash & Wildcat at Lake Compounce, USA and Coaster at PNE in Vancouver, Canada.

A wooden roller coaster is a type of roller coaster classified by its wooden track, which consists of running rails made of flat steel strips mounted on laminated wood. The support structure is also typically made of wood, but may also be made of steel lattice or truss, which has no bearing on a wooden coaster's classification. The type of wood often selected in the construction of wooden coasters worldwide is southern yellow pine, which grows abundantly in the southern United States, due to its density and adherence to different forms of pressure treatment.

Green Lantern, formerly known as Chang, is a stand-up roller coaster located at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson Township, New Jersey. Green Lantern stands 155 feet (47 m) tall and features a top speed of 63 miles per hour (101 km/h). The 4,155-foot-long (1,266 m) ride features five inversions and a duration of approximately 212 minutes. This steel coaster was designed and built by Swiss manufacturer Bolliger & Mabillard.

The Gravity Group is a wooden roller coaster design firm based in Cincinnati, Ohio, United States. The firm was founded in July 2002 out of the engineering team of the famed but now defunct Custom Coasters International. The core group of designers and engineers at The Gravity Group have backgrounds in civil, structural and mechanical engineering. Their experience comes from work on over 40 different wooden roller coasters around the world. The first coaster designed under the Gravity Group opened as Hades at Mount Olympus Theme Park in 2005. The Gravity Group also designed The Voyage at Holiday World in Santa Claus, Indiana, which opened in May 2006 and is the second-longest wooden roller coaster in the world. These first two accomplishments of the team have been received with great success by both the industry and coaster enthusiasts alike.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Suspended Looping Coaster</span> Type of roller coaster

The Suspended Looping Coaster is a model of steel inverted roller coaster built by Vekoma. There are at least 39 different installations across the world. The minimum rider height requirement is 130 centimetres. Vekoma is now marketing a Suspended Thrill Coaster as a successor to the Suspended Looping Coaster. The Odyssey is the largest, fastest and tallest SLC ever built at Fantasy Island in the UK.

Thunder Run (Kentucky Kingdom) Wooden roller coaster

Thunder Run is a wooden roller coaster at the Kentucky Kingdom amusement park in Louisville, Kentucky. The ride originally operated from August 1990 through to October 2009, when then-operators Six Flags abandoned the park. After remaining closed since 2009, Thunder Run reopened in May 2014 when Kentucky Kingdom reopened under new operators.

Antonio Zamperla S.p.A. is an Italian design and manufacturing company founded in 1966. It is best known for creating family rides, thrill rides and roller coasters worldwide. The company also makes smaller coin-operated rides commonly found inside shopping malls.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Soarin' Eagle</span>

Soarin' Eagle is a steel roller coaster located at the Scream Zone at Luna Park in Coney Island, Brooklyn, New York. The ride was the first ever Zamperla "Volare" roller coaster when it opened in 2002 at Elitch Gardens in Denver, Colorado, as the Flying Coaster. The Elitch Gardens ride was constructed by Martin & Vleminckx. The Volare, the cheapest option for a flying roller coaster, contains a compact layout with a distinctive spiral lift hill. In late 2010 the ride got dismantled and relocated to Luna Park in Coney Island, where it opened in April 2011 as the Soarin' Eagle. The ride has an identical sister, Hero, which opened in July 2013 at Flamingo Land in North Yorkshire.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Suspended Family Coaster</span>

A Suspended Family Coaster is a steel inverted roller coaster built by Vekoma designed for families with no inversions. Just like all inverted roller coasters the train runs under the track with the seats directly attached to the wheel carriage. This latter attribute is what sets it apart from the older suspended swinging coaster, which runs under the track, but "swings" via a pivoting bar attached to the wheel carriage.

Zierer Karussell- und Spezialmaschinenbau GmbH & Co. KG is a German company located close to Deggendorf. Zierer manufactures ESC and Force line of roller coasters, as well as panoramic wheels, wave swingers, flying carpets, Hexentanz, and Kontiki rides. They have previously manufactured the Tivoli line of coasters, however these have now been discontinued. The company also has partnered with Schwarzkopf to build Lisebergbanan at Liseberg and Knightmare at Camelot Theme Park.

Fantawild is a chain of amusement parks located in various cities of China. The first park opened in the mid-to-late 2000s in Chongqing. As of May 2020, 16 amusement parks operate under the Fantawild name, with seven currently under construction. The chain is owned by the Huaqiang Group. The mascot of the parks is a blue dinosaur named DuLuDuBi, and is typically used as the public image for the chain.
