The Migration Policy Institute (MPI) is an American liberal [2] [3] think tank established in 2001 by Kathleen Newland and Demetrios G. Papademetriou. The Migration Policy Institute is supportive of liberal immigration policies. [4] [5] [6]

The Migration Policy Institute was established by Demetrios G. Papademetriou and Kathleen Newland in 2001. The Migration Policy Institute launched MPI Europe in 2011 in Brussels. [7] Andrew Selee is the President of MPI. [8] MPI publishes an online journal, the Migration Information Source, which provides information, thoughts, and analyses of international migration and refugee trends. [9] MPI carries out research in fields such as border security, immigration policy & law, international governance, immigrant profiles and demographics. [10]

MPI organizes an annual Immigration Law and Policy Conference in cooperation with Georgetown University Law Center and the Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc. [11]

The Mercatus Center is an American libertarian, free-market-oriented non-profit think tank. The Mercatus Center is located at the George Mason University campus, however the organization is privately funded and its employees are independent of the university. It is directed by Daniel M. Rothschild and its board is chaired by American economist Tyler Cowen. The Center works with policy experts, lobbyists, and government officials to connect academic learning with real-world practice. Taking its name from the Latin word for market, the center advocates free-market approaches to public policy. During the George W. Bush administration's campaign to reduce government regulation, The Wall Street Journal reported, "14 of the 23 rules the White House chose for its 'hit list' to eliminate or modify were Mercatus entries".

Turkish think tanks are relatively new, but such think tanks provide research and ideas, yet they play less important roles in policy-making when compared with American think tanks. Many of them are sister organizations of a political party or a company. There are very few university think tanks.

The Stimson Center is a nonprofit, nonpartisan think tank that analyzes issues related to global peace. It is named after the American lawyer and politician Henry L. Stimson.

According to its mission statement, MPI is a "nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that conducts detailed and timely research to educate the public, the media, and lawmakers about public policy solutions that advance economic freedom and individual liberty in Maine." The organization has an associated media outlet, The Maine Wire.

The International Migration Initiative is an effort by the Open Society Foundations to promote harmony, equality and raise the quality of life, of immigrants all around the world. The Foundation realises the impact of migration on the global map. The International Migration Initiative strives to find solutions for issues such as inequality, discrimination and exclusion that are faced by migrants in the immigration procedure as well as in the immigrant destination.

Kathleen Newland is co-founder and Board of Trustees member of the Migration Policy Institute (MPI), a think tank located in the United States and focused on the study of migration policy worldwide. She is also the director of the Migration, Migrants, and Development Program there and also leads the refugee protection work at MPI.

Michael E. Fix is an American economist known for his research on immigration, especially illegal immigration to the United States. He is a senior fellow at the Migration Policy Institute, of which he formerly served as president.

Demetrios G. Papademetriou was an American immigration scholar and advisor. He cofounded the Migration Policy Institute in 2001.
