Miss International 1968, the 8th Miss International pageant, was held on October 9, 1968, at the Nippon Budokan Hall in Tokyo, Japan, marking the first overseas hosting of the Miss International pageant after staging in Long Beach, California since its inception in 1960. Maria Carvalho from Brazil was crowned the winner by outgoing titleholder, Mirta Massa from Argentina.

Maria da Gloria Carvalho is a Brazilian model and beauty queen who was crowned Miss International 1968, she is the only delegate from Brazil who has won the Miss International title.
Miss Universe 1982 was the 31st Miss Universe pageant, held on 26 July 1982 at the Coliseo Amauta in Lima, Peru. it was the first time in the pageant's history that the event was held in South America. Seventy-seven contestants competed in the pageant. Karen Dianne Baldwin of Canada was crowned by Irene Saez of Venezuela. This is the first time Canada won the pageant.

At the end of the event, 20-year-old Miss India Yukta Mookhey went on to win the Miss World 1999 crown. The preliminary swimsuit competition was held in Malta. She was crowned by her predecessor Linor Abargil of Israel. Protesters gathered outside the event, decrying it as a "sexist cattle market".

Miss World 1997, the 47th edition of the Miss World pageant, was held on 22 November 1997 at the Plantation Club Seychelles in Baie Lazare, Seychelles. 86 delegates competed for the coveted crown. At the end of the event, India's Diana Hayden came out victorious. Hayden went on to win the Miss World 1997 pageant at the age of 24 crowned by Miss World 1996, Irene Skliva. It was the first time the Miss World pageant was held in the Seychelles. She became the third Indian woman to win Miss World since Reita Faria in 1966 and Aishwarya Rai in 1994.
