The Miss International pageant is part of the Big Four international beauty pageants and is established in 1960, with the first edition being held at Long Beach, California, United States, the same venue where the first edition of the Miss Universe pageant was staged in 1952 (until 1959 when it moved to Miami Beach, Florida, due to this establishment) and now currently is located in Japan. In the entire 53-year history of the pageant, The first winner of Miss International 2012, Ikumi Yoshimatsu of Japan was dethroned and did not crown her successor due to contract dispute with another talent agency but was not replaced. From 1960 to 1965, 1967–1979, 2008, and 2011–2019, the pageant has awarded a Top 5 with the Miss International, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Runner-Up being awarded. On the other hand, from 1980 to 2007 and 2009–2010, the pageant has awarded a Top 3 with the Miss International, 1st, and 2nd Runner-Up being awarded. Each runner-up was given a sash, plaque/trophy and a crown, apart from the winner (the first to do before it was also done by rival pageant Miss Earth). Only the 1966 and 2020 editions were cancelled.

The 16th annual Nuestra Belleza México pageant was held at the Centro de Convenciones Yucatán Siglo XXI of Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico on September 20, 2009. It was the second time there were back-to-back victories for a state in Nuestra Belleza México history: Ximena Navarrete from Jalisco was crowned by outgoing Nuestra Belleza México titleholder Karla Carrillo also from Jalisco. She was the third Jalisciense to win this title. Thirty-four contestants of the Mexican Republic competed for the national title. Navarrete competed in Miss Universe 2010 in the US and won the Universal Title.

Miss Earth 2017, the 17th edition of the Miss Earth pageant, with the theme "Heroines fighting climate change", was held on November 4, 2017 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, Metro Manila, Philippines. Katherine Espín of Ecuador crowned her successor Karen Ibasco of the Philippines at the end of the event. Ibasco's crowning marks the fourth time the Philippines won the Miss Earth title—the most in the pageant's history.
Miss International 2018, the 58th Miss International pageant, was held on 9 November 2018, at the Tokyo Dome City Hall in Tokyo, Japan. Kevin Lilliana from Indonesia crowned her successor Mariem Velazco from Venezuela at the end of the event. This marks Venezuela's eighth victory at Miss International - the most in the pageant's history. This is the third time in Miss International history that the finals night saw the return of the previous year's runners-up to crown their respective successors. This year Miss International comeback edition with the theme "Cheer All Woman" alongside Miss International Japan 2019.
Miss International 2023 was the 61st Miss International pageant, held at the Yoyogi National Gymnasium in Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan on 26 October 2023. Jasmin Selberg of Germany crowned Andrea Rubio of Venezuela as her successor at the end of the event, marking the ninth time that Venezuela won the competition - the most wins in the pageant's history.
Nicole Yance Borromeo is a Filipino model and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Binibining Pilipinas International 2022. She represented the Philippines at the Miss International 2023 competition in Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan, and finished 3rd Runner-Up.
Miss Grand Japan 2018 was the 4th edition of the Miss Grand Japan pageant, held on July 30, 2018, at the WOMB Club, Shibuya, Tokyo. Fifteen contestants, who applied through an online application launched from December 24, 2017, to February 24, 2018, competed for the title.
