Miss International is a Japan-based international major beauty pageant organized by the International Culture Association. First held in 1960, it is the fourth largest pageant in the world in terms of the number of national winners participating in the international contest.
Valerie Susan Holmes is a British model and beauty queen who was the 1969 winner of the Miss International beauty pageant. She was the first delegate from her country to win the competition.
Maria da Gloria Carvalho is a Brazilian beauty queen who is the only delegate from Brazil who has won the Miss International title.
Linda Hooks is a British actress, model and beauty queen who won the Miss International crown in 1972, three years after Valerie Susan Holmes earned the title.

At the event's conclusion, Dayanara Torres of Puerto Rico was crowned Miss Universe by outgoing titleholder Michelle McLean of Namibia. Seventy-nine contestants competed in the pageant.

The pageant originally was scheduled to be held in Guatemala City, Guatemala. However, for financial and political reasons, Miss Universe was moved to New York City.

She was crowned by Miss World 1970, Jennifer Hosten of Grenada. Although Petterle completed her reign as Miss World, she fell and broke her arm in the final month of her year and was unable to travel to London to participate in the Miss World 1972 contest.

Miss International 2014, the 54th Miss International pageant, organized by the International Cultural Association held on November 11, 2014 at the Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa in Tokyo, Japan. Bea Santiago of the Philippines crowned her successor Valerie Hernández of Puerto Rico at the end of the event.
Miss International 2015, the 55th Miss International pageant, was held on November 5, 2015 at the Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa in Tokyo, Japan. Valerie Hernandez of Puerto Rico crowned her successor Edymar Martínez of Venezuela at the end of the event with a new crown created and designed by Mikimoto. The Continental Queens were awarded for the first time in this edition.
