Modesto is a village in Macoupin County, Illinois, United States. The population was 182 at the 2020 census, [2] down from 252 in 2000.
Modesto is located in northern Macoupin County at 39°28′37″N89°58′58″W / 39.47694°N 89.98278°W (39.476855, -89.982813). [3] Illinois Route 111 passes through the village as Main Street, leading north 8 miles (13 km) to Waverly and south 3 miles (5 km) to Palmyra. Carlinville, the Macoupin county seat, is 19 miles (31 km) to the southeast.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Modesto has a total area of 0.56 square miles (1.45 km2), all land. [1] The village drains east to an unnamed tributary of Nassa Creek, a southwest-flowing feeder of the Macoupin Creek watershed leading west to the Illinois River.

There were 102 households, out of which 37.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.9% were married couples living together, 11.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.5% were non-families. 25.5% of all households were made up of individuals, and 18.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 2.91.
