Monégasque dialect

Monégasque is the dialect of Genoese spoken in Monaco, where it is considered a national language, even though it is not the official language of the country.

The Franco-Monégasque Treaties of 1861, 1918 and 2002 are the basis of the relationship between the republic of France and the Principality of Monaco. The treaties define Monaco's independent status and sovereignty, as well as the rights of succession of the princely House of Grimaldi.

Monégasque nationality law

Monégasque nationality law determines entitlement to Monégasque citizenship. Citizenship of Monaco is based primarily on the principle of jus sanguinis. In other words, citizenship is conferred primarily by birth to a Monégasque parent, irrespective of place of birth.

Rugby union in Monaco is a minor, but growing sport. In October 2017, Monaco ranked 107th out of 110th national teams according to the World Rugby.

Monégasque identity card

The Monégasque identity card or CIME is issued to Monégasque citizens by the Monaco City Hall. It can be used as a travel document when visiting countries in the Schengen Area, the CEFTA states as well as Andorra, Croatia, Romania and Montserrat. The card is produced for the Monaco City Hall by Oberthur Technologies.

Yacht Club de Monaco

The Fédération Monégasque de Voile is the national governing body for the sport of sailing in Monaco, recognised by the International Sailing Federation. This organisation is in effect part of the Yacht Club de Monaco, which is the only Sailing Club in the country.

Monégasque cuisine is the cuisine of the principality of Monaco. It is a Mediterranean cuisine shaped by the cooking style of Provence and the influences of nearby northern Italian and southern French cooking, in addition to Monaco’s own culinary traditions. There is an emphasis on fresh ingredients, with the use of seafood, vegetables and olive oil playing a major role in the cuisine.
