The New Klang Valley Expressway [lower-alpha 1] (NKVE), designated E1, is an expressway entirely within the Klang Valley region of Selangor and Kuala Lumpur in Peninsular Malaysia. The expressway begins at the settlement of Bukit Raja near Klang, and ends at Jalan Duta in Kuala Lumpur. [1] The 35-kilometre (22-mile) expressway is one of the most heavily utilised expressways in the Klang Valley region. The expressway shares its designation with the North–South Expressway Northern Route.
Plans for the NKVE began in 1985 after the North–South Expressway was constructed and the Federal Highway had become a busing traffic during rush hour between Kuala Lumpur and Klang.
Construction began in 1988, and the first section of the NKVE between Bukit Raja and Damansara opened to traffic on 7 December 1990. [2] [3] The fully completed NKVE spanning between Bukit Raja and Jalan Duta was officially opened by Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad at Jalan Duta toll plaza on 11 January 1993.
In July 2010, the operator, PLUS Expressways Berhad, announced that the government had awarded contracts to build a fourth lane on a stretch from Shah Alam to Jalan Duta. The construction was completed in 2015.
NKVE is the second link between Kuala Lumpur and Klang after the Federal Highway. It has no rest and service areas, though there are many petrol station laybys situated along the highway. Other features of this highway include traffic CCTVs and VMS. Many viaducts are located along this expressway including the Penchala, Bukit Lanjan and Segambut viaducts. Persada PLUS is the main headquarters of the PLUS Expressways located at Subang Interchange. The expressways also includes spectacular sceneries of Mont Kiara and the Kuala Lumpur skyline.
A restricted route has been implemented on the New Klang Valley Expressway between Shah Alam and Jalan Duta during workdays or peak hours. Heavy vehicles (except buses and tankers) with laden and unladen heavy vehicles weighing 10,000 kg or more are not allowed to enter the expressway between 6:30 am until 9:30 am on Monday to Friday (except public holidays). A compound fine will be issued to heavy vehicles which flout the rule. [4]
On 26 November 2003, a rockfall near the Bukit Lanjan interchange caused the expressway to close for more than six months, causing massive traffic jams to occur in areas surrounding Klang Valley. After clearance of debris and road repairs, the expressway was reopened to public by mid-2004.
On 10 July 2005, a section of the Setia Alam flyover interchange – which was under construction then – collapsed, resulting in the death of two Bangladeshi workers and injuring seven others. (Source: New Straits Times 21 July 2005)
NKVE applied closed toll system in their entire route, implemented in all their access points where vehicles are charged according to distance travelled. The rates below is for full length journey between Jalan Duta toll plaza and Bukit Raja toll plaza:

Due to their fare integration with most of North-South Expressway parts and ELITE in a single closed toll system (up to system terminus in Sungai Besi, Jalan Duta, Bukit Raja, Juru and Skudai), the rates would be higher depending on their entry point. Passenger passing through this expressway (between Shah Alam and Bukit Lanjan to ELITE and Northern Route respectively) will have their fare includes distance travelled along this section of NKVE as well in their exit points in other expressways, but they not need to pay any tolls in between.

The North–South Expressway is a network of tolled controlled-access highways running through the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia. The expressway network consists of the northern route and southern route, having a total length of 772 kilometres. Running through seven states and connecting the Thailand and Singapore borders, the North–South Expressway is an important thoroughfare for local, interstate and international traffic. The expressway is part of route AH2, a designation of the Asian Highway Network.
Federal Highway is a Malaysian controlled-access highway connecting the capital city of Kuala Lumpur, and Klang, Selangor. The highway starts from Seputeh in Kuala Lumpur to Klang, Selangor. It is the busiest highway in Klang Valley during rush hour from/to Kuala Lumpur. The Federal Highway is coded as Federal Route 2.
The North–South Expressway Central LinkNorth–South Expressway Central Link also known as ELITE, is a 63-kilometre (39-mile) controlled-access highway in Malaysia, running between Shah Alam in Selangor and Nilai in Negeri Sembilan. The expressway joins the separated northern and southern sections of the North–South Expressway, allowing interstate traffic to bypass Kuala Lumpur. The expressway also serves as a primary access route to Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
The Shah Alam ExpresswayShah Alam Expressway is a 57.5-kilometre (35.7-mile) controlled-access highway in Peninsular Malaysia running between Pandamaran in Klang, Selangor to Sri Petaling in Kuala Lumpur. Shah Alam Expressway is the third east–west-oriented expressway in the Klang Valley after the Federal Highway and New Klang Valley Expressway. This expressway is part of the Kuala Lumpur Middle Ring Road 2 Scheme.
The New Pantai Expressway (Malay: Lebuhraya Baru Pantai)New Pantai Expressway, is a controlled-access highway in the Klang Valley region of Peninsular Malaysia. The North–South Expressway Southern RouteNorth–South Expressway Southern Route is an interstate controlled-access highway running parallel to the southwestern coast of Peninsular Malaysia. The expressway forms the south section of the North–South Expressway, connecting the states of Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Malacca and Johor. It begins at Seri Kembangan, near the state/territory boundary between Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, and travels southwards to end at Pandan-Tebrau in Johor.
The North–South Expressway Northern RouteNorth–South Expressway Northern Route is an interstate controlled-access highway running parallel to the northwestern coast of Peninsular Malaysia. The 460-kilometre (290-mile) expressway forms the north section of the North–South Expressway, passing through the northwestern states of Kedah, Penang, Perak and Selangor. The expressway begins at the Bukit Kayu Hitam checkpoint in Kedah, where the Malaysia–Thailand border lies, and ends at Bukit Lanjan in Selangor state where the expressway interchanges with the New Klang Valley Expressway. The expressway is operated by PLUS Expressways.
SPRINT ExpresswaySprint Expressway(Malay: Sistem Penyuraian Trafik Kuala Lumpur Barat, English: System of Traffic Dispersal in Western Kuala Lumpur) is the main expressway network in Klang Valley, Malaysia. The 26.5 km (16.5 mi) expressway is divided into three sections: the Kerinchi Link, Damansara Link and Penchala Link. It is a three-lane dual carriageway that was built to disperse traffic from congested inner city roads and narrow residential streets leading into Kuala Lumpur from the western suburbs, including Petaling Jaya, Damansara, and surrounding areas. It is one of the busiest expressway during rush hour to and from the city centre.
Malaysian Federal Roads System, is the main national road network in Malaysia. All Federal Roads in Malaysia are under the purview of the Ministry of Works (MOW). According to the Ministerial Functions Act 1969, the MOW is responsible to plan, build and maintain all Federal Roads gazetted under the Federal Roads Act 1959. However, most of the Federal roads' projects were built and maintained by the Malaysian Public Works Department (JKR), which is also one of the implementing agencies under the MOW.
Guthrie Corridor Expressway, GCE, Guthrie Corridor Expressway is an expressway in Klang Valley, Selangor, Malaysia. It connects Shah Alam to Rawang. GCE is approximately 25 km (16 mi). The expressway is unique in Malaysia in that all project costs, including land acquisition, were completely borne by the concessionaire. Of the land acquired, 80 percent was from a plantation company Guthrie Berhad which in 2007 merged with two other companies to form Sime Darby. Today this expressway is owned by Prolintas and its subsidiary Prolintas Expressway Sdn Bhd. The starting point of the highway or 'Kilometre Zero' is located at the Jalan Monfort intersection near Shah Alam.
North Klang Straits Bypass, Federal Route 20, AH 141, is the main highway bypass to Port Klang in Klang, Selangor, Malaysia. Federal Route 20 became the backbone of the road system linking Sungai Rasau to Port Klang before being surpassed by the New North Klang Straits Bypass 30. Many cargo trucks travel along the highway daily.

Duta–Ulu Klang Expressway, is the main expressway network in Klang Valley, Malaysia. The 18 km (11 mi) expressway connects New Klang Valley Expressway's Jalan Duta Interchange (E1) to Taman Hillview Interchange on Kuala Lumpur Middle Ring Road 2 28 in Ulu Klang. The expressway was constructed to provide the "missing link" between New Klang Valley Expressway (E1), Kuala Lumpur–Karak Expressway (E8), and Kuala Lumpur Middle Ring Road 2 (JKR28). This expressway is also known as the Kuala Lumpur Northeast Dispersal Link Scheme. It was proposed by Tan Sri Datuk Lim Kang Hoo, a chairman of Ekovest Berhad.
Mont Kiara, often stylized as Mont' Kiara and MK, is an affluent suburb at the northwest of downtown Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in the constituency of Segambut. It consists mainly of high-rise residential condominiums and office complexes which were mostly developed by UEM Sunrise Berhad, a well-known property development arm of UEM Group. It is located in the heart of Klang Valley, halfway between Kepong and downtown Kuala Lumpur. It is adjacent to Sri Hartamas in the south and KL Metropolis in the east, and is heavily populated by expats.
Setia Alam is a township located in Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia. It is accessible via Setia Alam Highway from the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) since the interchange was opened on 14 July 2006. Setia Alam is also accessible from the Federal Highway and Klang via Jalan Meru. This township is developed by S P Setia Berhad.

The Kuala Lumpur–Kuala Selangor ExpresswayKuala Lumpur–Kuala Selangor Expressway, KLS(formerly Ijok–Templer Park Highway, LATAR) or sometimes called LATAR Expressway, is an expressway in Selangor, Malaysia. It is part of the Kuala Lumpur Outer Ring Road. The 32 km (20 mi) expressway connects Ijok near Kuala Selangor to Templer's Park near Rawang and not Kuala Lumpur as its name suggests – consequently, motorists will need to travel another 20 km to Kuala Lumpur via Kuala Lumpur–Rawang Highway. Kuala Lumpur–Kuala Selangor Expressway is the fourth east–west-oriented expressway in the Klang Valley after the Federal Highway, the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) and the Shah Alam Expressway.
The Bukit Jalil Highway, or Puchong–Sungai Besi Highway, Federal Route 217, is a major highway in Klang Valley, Malaysia. It is a toll-free and also a second highway after Shah Alam Expressway E5. It connects the Sungai Besi Expressway E9 near Selangor Turf Club in the east to Damansara–Puchong Expressway E11 near Puchong Jaya in the west. The highway passes Bandar Kinrara and Bukit Jalil.
The Malaysian Expressway System is a network of national controlled-access expressways in Malaysia that forms the primary backbone network of Malaysian national highways. The network begins with the Tanjung Malim–Slim River tolled road which was opened to traffic on 16 March 1966, later North–South Expressway (NSE), and is being substantially developed. Malaysian expressways are built by private companies under the supervision of the government highway authority, Malaysian Highway Authority.
