Overlake is the name for a region comprising parts of eastern Bellevue and southern Redmond, Washington. It is in the vicinity of Microsoft's main corporate campus and is officially defined as a neighborhood consisting of the parts of Redmond lying south of Northeast 60th Street and between 148th Avenue Northeast and Bellevue-Redmond Road. [1] The Overlake area, so named because it is located across Lake Washington from Seattle,[ citation needed ] straddles the boundaries of Bellevue and Redmond and is considered to have its own identity distinct from those of both cities.[ citation needed ]

Aside from Microsoft, the area is home to a number of corporate campuses, including the headquarters of Nintendo of America, and includes a busy retail district along 148th Avenue N.E. and N.E. 24th Street.[ citation needed ] It is also the home of the Civil Air Patrol Overlake Composite Squadron. [2]

Historically, the term referred to a much larger region of King County that is collectively known today as the Eastside.

History

The Overlake name extends at least as far back as 1927 with the foundation of the Overlake Transit Service, a precursor to King County Metro. [3] The Bellevue School District and Bellevue High School were formerly known as the Overlake School District and Overlake High School prior to 1950. [1] The two largest institutions in the region named "Overlake" are not actually located in today's Overlake area: Overlake Hospital in central Bellevue, and Overlake Christian Church in north central Redmond near the Sammamish River.

State Route 520 runs through Overlake on its way from Redmond to Seattle.

The Overlake area is where The Overlake School originated before moving to rural Redmond.[ citation needed ]

Factoria, Bellevue

Factoria is a mixed-use suburban neighborhood in south Bellevue, Washington and is one of the city's significant commercial districts. Originally timberland from the 1890s to 1920s and later envisioned as an industrial center, Factoria has since the 1960s evolved into commercial and residential development. Westlake Center is a four-story shopping center and 25-story office tower in downtown Seattle, Washington, United States. The southern terminus of the Seattle Center Monorail, it is located across Pine Street from Westlake Park, between 4th and 5th Avenues. It is named for Westlake Avenue, which now terminates north of the mall but once ran two blocks farther south to Pike Street. Westlake Park is considered Seattle's "town square" and celebrities and political figures often make appearances or give speeches from the building's balcony.

The East Link Extension, also known as Line 2, is a future light rail line serving the Eastside region of the Seattle metropolitan area in the U.S. state of Washington. It will be part of Sound Transit's Link light rail system, running 14 miles (23 km) from west to east and serving 10 stations in Downtown Seattle, Mercer Island, Bellevue, and Redmond. Line 2 is scheduled to open in 2023 and will continue into the Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel and share stations with Line 1. A 3.7-mile-long (6.0 km) extension to Downtown Redmond with two additional stations is scheduled to open in 2024.

The 28-acre (11 ha), 3.0 million square feet (280,000 m2) project is near major regional shopping and employment centers and multiple modes of transportation, including the future Overlake Village light rail station scheduled to open in 2023. The Esterra Park campus is expected to be home to a combined 8,000 residents and workers.

Crossroads is a neighborhood in Bellevue, Washington. It is situated in the north and eastern portion of the city, lying south of Bellevue-Redmond Road, east of Bellevue's Wilburton neighborhood, and north of Lake Hills.
