The PNS Bahadur is the naval station and the largest operations training facility located in the urban neighborhood of Karsaz in Karachi that provides operations education on the subjects of Navigation, Radars warfare, Hyderography, Communication warfare, Surface warfare, Underwater Warfare, Weapons Training Section, and Information Technology warfare for the Navy's enlisted personnel upon their passing out from the PNS Himalaya— the Navy's only basic training boot camp in Manora Island in Karachi coast, Sindh, in Pakistan. The PNS Bahadur serves its purpose of conducting the instructional basis operational education that ranges from the basic–to-mid–to–advance level professional courses on various subjects and military operations for its Operations Branch. [3] Established in 1980, [4] the PNS Bahadur is a well-established and large complex covering 45.5 acres (1,980,000 sq ft) that consists of a single administration building and various schools including the CMWTC auditorium, library on military history, and dormitory that houses its personnel.[ citation needed ]

Training on military operations and Information Technology is not restricted to the Navy's enlisted personnel but enlisted personnel from Marines, Army, and Air Force have also been educated, certified, and earned their badges of qualifications from the PNS Bahadur.[ citation needed ]

History

PNS BAHADUR was originally the boys training establishment till 1970, when its role was assigned to another establishment named as PNS HIMALAYA and its own site was converted into Pakistan Naval Academy. The new Bahadur was re-commissioned at its present site in June 1983 and became the centre of Operations Branch training by housing all professional schools. [5]

PNS BAHADUR had started off initially with only four basic seaman branch schools namely Navigation & Ops, Surface Weapons, Underwater Warfare and Communication. Other facilities school/centre were progressively added to meet the requirements of PN as mentioned below: [6]

The PNS Qasim is a major marines base that serves as the headquarter of the Pakistan Marines for their administrative, operational and logistic requirements. PNS Qasim, the garrison of Pakistan Marines, is served as the logistic base for the Marines which is responsible for general administration and naval/military logistics requirements. The Pakistan Marines Corps structure is composed of five segments, and the PNS Qasim is part of the Eastern Naval Command of Pakistan Navy. The Indo-Pakistani Naval War of 1971 refers to the maritime military engagements between the Indian Navy and the Pakistan Navy during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. The series of naval operations began with the Indian Navy's exertion of pressure on Pakistan from the Indian Ocean, while the Indian Army and Indian Air Force moved in to choke Pakistani forces operating in East Pakistan on land. Operation Madad was a non-combative and assistance military operation commenced and executed by Pakistan Navy after the massive national floods hit the country. Its primary operations were to conduct SAR raids to support affected areas of Pakistan following the 2010 Pakistan floods. Madadwas the major and the largest naval operation commenced by the Pakistan Navy since the 1971 Naval conflict.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Operation Umeed-e-Nuh</span>

Operation Umeed-e-Nuh , was a naval humanitarian and a rescue operation in order to secure the merchant vessel MV Suez. The operation was carried out by the Pakistan Navy. The merchant vessel MV Suez operated under the flag of Panama and had an Egyptian owner, Red Sea Navigation. On 2 August 2010, the vessel was attacked and taken hostage by Somali pirates. Pakistani human rights activist Ansar Burney and Governor of Sindh, Dr Ishrat-ul-Ibad Khan managed to secure the release of the 22 men crew with a payout of US$2.1 million. The pirates released the vessel on 16 June 2011. However, multiple issues involving low fuel and deteriorated operational and material meant that the crew needed additional help from the Pakistan Navy.

Admiral Mohammad Asif SandilaNI(M) HI(M) SI(M) LoM OM BJSN BYD, is a retired four-star admiral in the Pakistan Navy who was the 14th Chief of Naval Staff of the Pakistan Navy. Prior to this command appointment, Sandila briefly tenured as the Vice Chief Naval Staff in the Pakistan Navy which he assumed in 2010.

The Military installations in Karachi are extensive as the Pakistani military has several military bases for all branches of its uniform services. The Pakistan Army has six military bases, that are noted as Cantts, while the Karachi Port serves as the main naval base for the Pakistan Navy and Qasim Fort as the headquarter for the Pakistan Marines. The Pakistan Air Force has three air force bases in Karachi.

PNS <i>Zulfiquar</i> (F251)

PNS Zulfiquar (FFG-251) is the lead ship of the F-22P Zulfiquar-class guided missile frigates since 2009. She was designed and constructed by Chinese firm, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding in Shanghai, for the Pakistan Navy. The vessel's design is primarily influenced from the Type 053H3 frigate.

Military exercises are conducted by the Pakistan Armed Forces to increase combat readiness, and to identify problems in logistics, training, and current military doctrine. They also test the ability of units to work together. Lastly, they act as a visible expression of military might, which acts as a deterrent to potential enemy action. An important component of each exercise is the after-action assessment. Since 1989 the four branches services have increasingly begun coordinated exercises.

The PNS Iqbal is the naval base that serves as the training and operating headquarters of the Navy Special Service Group, having been established in 1966 at the Karachi coast in Sindh in Pakistan.

The PNS Himalaya, formerly known as HMIS Himalaya, is the naval base and the home of the Pakistan Navy's only boot camp, commissioned in 1943. It is on Manora Island, Karachi. Till 1947 it was titled as HMIS Himalaya as Pakistan was then part of British India. The base is named after the famous Himalaya Mountain Range.

The Pakistan military services have established number of training schools, academies, universities and command & staff colleges across the Pakistan for the purpose of training soldiers and officers in military science, warfare command and strategy and associated technologies.
