Piezodorus is a genus of Pentatomidae, a family of shield bugs. [1]
Pentatomidae is a family of insects belonging to the order Hemiptera, generally called shield bugs or stink bugs. Pentatomidae is the largest family in the superfamily Pentatomoidea, and contains around 900 genera and over 4700 species. As hemipterans, the pentatomids have piercing sucking mouthparts, and most are phytophagous, including several species which are severe pests on agricultural crops. However, some species, particularly in the subfamily Asopinae, are predatory and may be considered beneficial.
Pentatominae is a subfamily of Pentatomidae, a family of shield bugs. This subfamily is the largest one within the pentatomidae, having 4937 species. classified in 938 genera. Species on this subfamily are phytophages and several of them have been considered agricultural pests. Some invasive pentatomines such as Halyomorpha halys and Bagrada hilaris have been considered household pests, even inflicting adventitious bites. Higher systematics of the group has been revised by Rider et al.
Acanthosomatidae is a family of Hemiptera, commonly named "shield bugs," for which Kumar in his 1979 world revision recognized 47 genera; now this number is 55 genera, with about 200 species, and is one of the least diversified families within Pentatomoidea.
Brochymena is a genus of insects, sometimes known as the rough stink bugs. They belong to the shield bug family, and are easily confused with the similar-looking brown marmorated stink bug.
Troilus luridus, also known as the bronze shieldbug, is a species of shield bug found in Europe. It was first described by the Danish zoologist, Johan Christian Fabricius in 1775. Shieldbugs are generally phytophagous and some, including Troilus luridus are also carnivorous and will eat the larvae of beetles, lepidoptera and sawflys
Calliphara nobilis is a species of jewel bug found in Asia. Like all species of jewel bugs, it is phytophagous, feeding on the leaves, fruit and seeds of its host plants. This insect is notable for its multiple defense mechanisms: it is highly mobile and swarms disperse with a loud buzz when disturbed; it is aposematically colored, which serves as a warning to any would-be predators that it is unpalatable; and it possesses a robust chemical defense mechanism: it can secrete an irritating and toxic fluid from a pair of metathoracic scent glands when threatened.
Oebalus pugnax, the rice stink bug, is a flying insect in the shield bug family Pentatomidae native to North America that has become a major agricultural pest in the Southern United States. It has been a known pest since at least the time of Johan Christian Fabricius, who described the species in 1775.
Holcostethus is a genus of shield bugs belonging to the family Pentatomidae, subfamily Pentatominae.
The forest shield bug is a species of shield bugs endemic to New Zealand. Forest shield bug nymphs prefer feeding on grasses, while adults will eat a variety of New Zealand plants including "hard-leaved" plants like rimu. O. vittatus was one of the first insects from New Zealand to be described by a European scientist.
Eurygaster is a genus of shield bugs widespread in Eurasia; some in North America.
Elasmucha is a genus of shield bugs belonging to the family Acanthosomatidae.
Chrysocoris is a genus of brightly colored shield-backed bugs belonging to the family Scutelleridae, containing approximately 45 species.
Piezodorus lituratus, the gorse shield bug, is a species of Pentatomidae, a family of shield bugs.
Peribalus is a genus of shield bugs in the family Pentatomidae.
Pentatomini is a tribe of shield bugs in the subfamily of Pentatominae.
Diolcus is a genus of shield-backed bugs in the family Scutelleridae. There are at least three described species in Diolcus.
Piezodorus guildinii, known generally as red-banded stink bug, is a species of stink bug in the family Pentatomidae. Other common names include the small green stink bug and alfalfa bug.
