As of the census [2] of 2000, there were 1,270 people, 441 households, and 366 families residing in the town. The population density was 35.6 people per square mile (13.8/km2). There were 454 housing units at an average density of 12.7 per square mile (4.9/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 98.11% White, 0.55% Native American, 0.16% Asian, 0.16% from other races, and 1.02% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.55% of the population.
There were 441 households, out of which 36.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 71.0% were married couples living together, 6.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 17.0% were non-families. 13.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 4.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.83 and the average family size was 3.06.
