Polk was platted in 1906 when the railroad was extended to that point. [4]

The racial makeup of the village was 98.4% White, 0.3% Native American, 0.3% Asian, 0.6% from other races, and 0.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.2% of the population.

The average household size was 2.12 and the average family size was 2.78.
