Portwood is an area of Stockport, Greater Manchester, England, just east of the town centre along Great Portwood Street. The part closest to the town centre contains Meadow Mill and is mainly given over to shops (including The Peel Centre), restaurants, and takeaways; the outer part is residential. The River Tame and Goyt and M60 motorway run through the area.
The site of the former Stockport Portwood railway station lies under the M60 motorway. [1]
The area is served by three pubs, The Queens, [2] The Midway [3] [4] and The Park Inn. [5] The Railway was demolished in 2022, despite being named CAMRA's National Pub of the Year in 2007, and being regularly featured in its national Good Beer Guide. [6] [7] [8]
Portwood is the nearest entrance to the Reddish Vale from Stockport town centre. [9]
