Ramesh Bidhuri (born 18 July 1961) is an Indian politician, a lawyer [1] and a former Member of Parliament (MP) affiliated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). [2]

Ramesh and members of his family have been active members of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh from their early childhood. Ramesh started his political career as a student when he was elected as the central councillor of Shaheed Bhagat Singh College and to the executive council of Delhi University. He is serving as an MP for the South Delhi constituency for a second successive time and had served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) thrice before becoming an MP. [3]

This can be clearly observed that Ramesh Bidhuri's assets multiplied after winning multiple Lok Sabha elections. Some people allegedly claim that he has been found to be involved in multiple land encroachments which made his valuation over 18Cr+ and has been to give death threats. AAP had officially listed the cases against Ramesh where he had found encroaching DDA Land in 2015.

Political career

Bidhuri completed his graduation with a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Shaheed Bhagat Singh College (M), Delhi University, and completed his degree in law (LLB) from Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut. [4] He is now an Advocate in Delhi High Court.

Since 1993, Bidhuri has worked actively in politics, occupying posts in several religious and political organizations. In 1996, he worked as the District General Secretary, Mehrauli district, and served as the Pradesh Secretary of Dharm Yatra of Mahasangh.

He also served the party as District President BJP (1997–2003) and as the Vice President BJP Delhi Pradesh (2003–2008). Since 2008, he has occupied the position of General Secretary, BJP Delhi Pradesh. He joined BJP and has thrice been the MLA from Tughlakabad.

In the 2014 Indian general election, Bidhuri was declared as the candidate from South Delhi constituency by the BJP, and later won the election. [4] He is currently the MP representing South Delhi.

In 2019, he defeated Aam Aadmi Party's Raghav Chadha and Indian National Congress's Vijender Singh in elections in South Delhi (Lok Sabha constituency) by gaining more than 54% votes. [5] [6]

Controversy

During a discussion in parliament on 21 September 2023, Bidhuri abused Bahujan Samaj Party MP Kunwar Danish Ali using Islamophobic slurs, calling him a terrorist. These comments were condemned by parliamentarians and political leaders across party lines. [7] [8] BJP issued a show cause notice to him for his remarks. However, no actions were taken against him by the speaker Om Birla. [9] Bidhuri later on expressed regret for his objectionable remarks. [10] In 2015, five women Oppn MPs had, in a complaint to then Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, accused South Delhi BJP MP Bidhuri of 'abusive behaviour' and using 'sexist, abusive and derogatory' language in the House. [11]
