Roje Stona (born 26 February 1999) is a Jamaican track and field athlete who competes in the discus throw. [1]

Early life

He attended St. Jago High School in Spanish Town, Jamaica. [2] He also attended Clemson University and the University of Arkansas. [3] [4]

Career

He won gold in the discus at the 2019 NACAC U23 Championships in Mexico. [5] He won silver in the discus at the 2019 NACAC U23 Championships behind compatriot Kai Chang. [6]

He qualified for the final of the discus at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, finishing sixth overall. [7] He was runner-up to Turner Washington in the discus at the 2024 NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships in Austin, Texas in June 2023. [8]

He competed in the men’s discus at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest and threw 62.57 metres. [9]

In April 2024, Stona achieved the qualifying mark for the discus at the 2024 Summer Olympics in finishing second at the Oklahoma Throws Series World Invitational, with a personal best distance of 69.05m. [10]

In 2024, he was invited to rookie minicamps by the NFL teams Green Bay Packers and New Orleans Saints. 6’6″ and 270 pounds, he did not play American Football competitively at college. [11] He won the discus throw at the LA Grand Prix in May 2024 with a throw of 66.93 metres. [12] In July 2024, he was officially selected for the Jamaican team at the 2024 Paris Olympics. [13]

The 2012 NACAC Under-23 Championships in Athletics were held at the Centro Paralímpico Nacional in Irapuato, Mexico from 6 to 8 July. It was the seventh edition of the biennial athletics competition for NACAC area athletes under 23 years of age. A total of 44 track and field events were contested, divided evenly between the sexes. It was the third time that Mexico had hosted the event, having done so in 2000 and 2008.

Traves Smikle is a Jamaican athlete. He competed for Jamaica in discus at the 2012 Summer Olympics. and at the 2020 Summer Olympics. He is a five time National Champion winning the Jamaican National Senior Championships (Trials) in 2011, 2012, 2019, 2022 and 2023. He has represented Jamaica at the World Championships in 2017, 2019 and 2022.

Omar McLeod is a Jamaican professional hurdler and sprinter competing in the 60 m hurdles and 110 m hurdles. In the latter event, he is the 2016 Olympic champion and 2017 World champion. He was NCAA indoor champion in the 60 m hurdles in 2014 and 2015 and outdoor champion in the 110 m hurdles in 2015; he turned professional after the 2015 collegiate season, forgoing his two remaining years of collegiate eligibility. His personal best in the 110 m hurdles ranks him equal 7th on the world all-time list.
