Rudy den Outer (born 22 July 1954 in Rotterdam) [12] is a sailor from the Netherlands, who represented his country at the 2008 Vintage Yachting Games in Medemblik, as helmsman in the Dutch Soling Sophie's Choice. Den Outer with crew members Leo Determan and Ronald den Arend took the Gold. In the 2012 Vintage Yachting Games, this time with crew members Gavin Lidlow and Ramzi Souli the team took the Silver medal in Bellano, Italy. In 2003 with helmsman Fred Imhoff and Richard van Rij he became European Champion in the Dragon at Kinsale, Ireland. [13] Den Outer is also very active in the organization of major International Sailing events for Olympic and former Olympic classes.

Rudy den Outer, after sailing some Dutch National classes, started his International sailing in 1970 crewing for Leo Determan in the Flying Dutchman. In 1975, Den Outer crewed for Ben Staartjes in the Tempest. [14] He was member of the "Yellow Joker" sailing team of Fred Imhoff. [15] He started crewing for Geert Bakker in the Soling in 1981. After that Rudy started to helm the Soling. During 1999 and 2001, Den Outer crewed for Heike Blok in the Dragon. Along with Richard van Rij and helmsman Fred Imhoff's he was part of the "Danisch Joker" Dragon team in 2002 and 2003. [6] During the 2018 Vintage the Soling team of Rudy den Outer, Theo de Lange and Gabor Helmhout took the gold during challenging circumstances off the coast of Hellerup, Denmark. In 2019 den Outer as helmsman with Theo de Lange and Thies Bosch took the gold during the 2019 North American Championship 2019 on Lake Ontario, Kingston, Ontario. With Theo de Lange and Ramzi Souli Rudy became European Champion in the Soling at Mandello del Lario, Italy in 2021,. [8] Den Outer is sailing Soling on regular basis in National and International competitions as member of the Kralingsche Zeil Club in Rotterdam.

Regatta organization and management

Rudy den Outer organized the 1990 Soling World Championship (fleetrace) in Medemblik with the Royal Yachtclub Hollandia, the 1993 Soling European Championship, and the 1988 Soling World Championship (both matchrace) at Rotterdam, Kralingen this in cooperation with the Rotterdamsche Zeilvereeniging. Den Outer took in 2006 the initiative [16] for the Vintage Yachting Games. [17] This event for the former Olympic classes is held every four years. Currently Den Outer is chairman [18] of the daily board of the Vintage Yachting Games Organization. He is past committee member of the International Soling Association 3 terms from 1988 [19] till 1997 [20] and Past Vice-President from the same organization (1993). [21]

The Dragon is a one-design keelboat designed by Norwegian Johan Anker in 1929. In 1948 the Dragon became an Olympic Class, a status it retained until the Munich Olympics in 1972. Sailing/Yachting is an Olympic sport starting from the Games of the 1st Olympiad. With the exception of 1904 and the canceled 1916 Summer Olympics, sailing has always been included on the Olympic schedule. The Sailing program of 1972 consisted of a total of six sailing classes (disciplines). For each class seven races were scheduled from 29 August 1972 to 8 September 1972 of the coast of Kiel-Schilksee in the Bay of Kiel. Kiel hosted the Olympic sailing competitions for the second time, having previously done so during the 1936 Summer Olympics. The sailing was done on the triangular type Olympic courses.

Sven Erik Coster is a sailor from the Netherlands. Coster represented his country for the first time at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. With his brother Kalle Coster as crew Coster took 6th place as helmsman in the Dutch Men's 470. Coster's second Olympic appearance was during the 2008 Olympics in Qingdao again as helmsman in the 470 and his brother as crew, Coster took the 4th place. Also with Kalle as crew in the 470 Coster helmed the Dutch 470 at the 2012 Olympics in Weymouth. The brothers finished on the 12th place.

The Soling was an event on the 2012 Vintage Yachting Games program at Lake Como, Italy. Six out of the nine scheduled race were completed. Seven nations entered 39 sailors in 13 boats.

The organization of this event was executed by a joint venture of the Kongelig Dansk Yachtklub and the Hellerup Sejlklub. The Vintage Yachting Games Organization (VYGO) was the governing organization. The competition took place in 3 Vintage Yachting Classes.

Ferdinand "Fred" Helmuth Imhoff is a sailor from the Netherlands, who represented his country at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Kiel, Germany as helmsman in the Flying Dutchman Brave Henderik IV (H-230). With crew Simon Korver they took the 10th place. Imhoff was the substitute for the Dragon during the 1968 Olympics.

Sjoerd Steven Vollebregt is a sailor from the Netherlands who represented his native country at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Kingston, Ontario. With twin brother Erik Vollebregt as helmsman, Vollebregt finished 14th in the Sailing at the 1976 Summer Olympics – Flying Dutchman. Since in 1980 the Netherlands boycotted the Moscow Olympics, Vollebregt represented his National Olympic Committee under the Dutch NOC flag in the Flying Dutchman. Again with his brother as helmsman, he took 7th place.

Theodorus "Theo" Adrianus de Lange is a sailor from the Netherlands, who represented his country at the 2018 Vintage Yachting Games in Hellerup Denmark. De Lange as middleman together with helmsman Rudy den Outer and Gabor Helmhout on the foredeck took the Gold medal in the Soling. During the 2019 North American Championship in Kingston, Ontario, De Lange again as middleman in the Dutch Soling Sophie’s Choice together with helmsman Rudy den Outer but now with Thies Bosch on the foredeck took first place. This was the first time European sailors won this championship in the over fifty years history of the North American Soling Championship!

Peter Hall is a sailor from Canada, who represented his country at the 1987 Pan American Games in Indianapolis, United States with team members Scott Morgan and Alain Boucher where they took the Silver medal in the Soling. Also at the 2018 Vintage Yachting Games in Hellerup Denmark, Hall as helmsman together with his fellow crew members Gord de Vries and Johan Offermans took the silver medal in the Soling. Hall is representing Group P in the council of World Sailing. Peter won so far four World Championships. Furthermore, he was president of the International Soling Association from 2015 - 2016.

Ramzi Souli is a sailor from the Netherlands, who represented his country at the 2012 Vintage Yachting Games in Bellano Italy. Souli on the fordeck together with helmsman Rudy den Outer and Gavin Lidlow in the middle took the Silver medal in the Soling. During the 2012 Soling Europeans in Aarhus, Denmark as well as at the 2014 Soling Europeans in Saint-Pierre-Quiberon, France the same team took the 3rd place. Together with Rudy den Outer and Theo de Lange Ramzi became European Champion in the Soling at Mandello del Lario, Italy in 2021, Ramzi holds several Dutch titles in the Soling. He is member of the Kralingsche Zeil Club in Rotterdam.

Leo holds several Dutch titles and one Italian title (2010) in the Soling. He used to be member of Yacht Club VZOD, Rotterdam.

Martin Zeileis is a sailor from Austria, together with Karl Haist (helmsman) and Patrick Wichmann (foredeck), Zeileis won second place during the 2012 European Soling Championship. With this team he became the Best Europeans in this series.
