Rufus E. (Pete) Straughter (born May 4,1937) is an American politician. He is a former member of the Mississippi House of Representatives from the 51st District,being first elected in 1994 and serving till 2024. He is a member of the Democratic party. [1]

Yvette Marie Stevens,better known by her stage name Chaka Khan,is an American singer. Rufus Choate was an American lawyer,orator,and Senator who represented Massachusetts as a member of the Whig Party. He is regarded as one of the greatest American lawyers of the 19th century,arguing over a thousand cases in a lifetime practice extending to virtually every branch of the law then recognized. Notably,he was one of the pioneers of the legal technique of arousing jury sympathy in tort cases. In one instance,he successfully won a record judgement of $22,500 for a badly injured widow,the most ever awarded to a plaintiff at the time.
Rufus C. Thomas,Jr. was an American rhythm-and-blues,funk,soul and blues singer,songwriter,dancer,DJ and comic entertainer from Memphis,Tennessee. He recorded for several labels,including Chess Records and Sun Records in the 1950s,before becoming established in the 1960s and 1970s at Stax Records. His dance records,including "Walking the Dog" (1963),"Do the Funky Chicken" (1969),and "(Do the) Push and Pull" (1970),were some of his most successful songs. According to the Mississippi Blues Commission,"Rufus Thomas embodied the spirit of Memphis music perhaps more than any other artist,and from the early 1940s until his death . . . occupied many important roles in the local scene."
Quintus Curtius Rufus was a Roman historian,probably of the 1st century,author of his only known and only surviving work,Historiae Alexandri Magni,"Histories of Alexander the Great",or more fully Historiarum Alexandri Magni Macedonis Libri Qui Supersunt,"All the Books That Survive of the Histories of Alexander the Great of Macedon." Much of it is missing. Apart from his name on the manuscripts,nothing else certain is known of him. This fact alone has led philologists to believe that he had another historical identity,to which,due to the accidents of time,the link has been broken. A few theories exist. They are treated with varying degrees of credibility by various authors. Meanwhile,the identity of Quintus Curtius Rufus,historian,is maintained separately.
Gerard was Archbishop of York between 1100 and 1108 and Lord Chancellor of England from 1085 until 1092. A Norman,he was a member of the cathedral clergy at Rouen before becoming a royal clerk under King William I of England and subsequently his son King William II Rufus. Gerard was appointed Lord Chancellor by William I,and he continued in that office under Rufus,who rewarded him with the Bishopric of Hereford in 1096. Gerard may have been with the king's hunting party when William II was killed,as he is known to have witnessed the first charter issued by the new king,Henry I of England,within days of William's death.
