Sport Club Corinthians São Vicente is a football (soccer) club that plays in the São Vicente Island League in Cape Verde. The team is based in the city of Mindelo. The club is named after the Brazilian club SC Corinthians of the city of São Paulo and is an affiliate of the club. [1] Its logo is nearly the same as the SC Corinthians logo along with its uniform. The club is the second in the country to have it named after a Brazilian club, the first was Botafogo from São Filipe.

Cape Verde or Cabo Verde, officially the Republic of Cabo Verde, is an island country spanning an archipelago of 10 volcanic islands in the central Atlantic Ocean. It forms part of the Macaronesia ecoregion, along with the Azores, Canary Islands, Madeira, and the Savage Isles. In ancient times these islands were referred to as "the Islands of the Blessed" or the "Fortunate Isles". Located 570 kilometres (350 mi) west of the Cape Verde Peninsula off the coast of Northwest Africa, the islands cover a combined area of slightly over 4,000 square kilometres (1,500 sq mi).

Mindelo is a port city in the northern part of the island of São Vicente in Cape Verde. Mindelo is also the seat of the parish of Nossa Senhora da Luz, and the municipality of São Vicente. The city is home to 93% of the entire island's population. Mindelo is known for its colourful and animated carnival celebrations, with roots in Portuguese traditions.

Botafogo Futebol Clube is football club that plays in the Fogo Island League in Cape Verde. It is based in the city of São Filipe in the island of Fogo and plays in its stadium. Académica do Fogo are one of the unrelegated clubs on the island which includes Académica and Vulcânicos. The owner of the club as of 2014 was Cabo Verde Telecom. It is one of many teams that only a few titles before and since independence including one in 1980. Its president as of the 2014-15 season is Manuel Anatólio Dias Fonseca and its manager as of the 2015-16 season is Mário Pinto.

History

The club was founded on September 9, 1987. Corinthians became a registered club in 2008 and played in the Second Division. The club has mainly always finished in the lower positions each season. The club celebrated its 25th anniversary on September 9, 2012. Corinthians played in the Second Division up to the 2017–18 season. [2]

The club also has a youth team, Corinthians was the champion the Cape Verdean junior championships once, also the club was a three-time champion of the São Vicente Youth Championships.

Corinthians began the 2018 Second Division season with a two goal draw with their first ever meeting with Falcões. Corinthians then defeated Ponta de Pom. Corinthians try to prevent Amarante from ever returning to the Premier Division next season, that failed as the match ended in a 2-0 loss. Corinthians made a goal draw with Calhau and recently defeated the village of São Pedro and made their only win of the season. Halfway into the season, Corinthians has 8 points, 2 wins and draws, same results with Amarante, they scored 7 goals and has a two goal difference over their goal concession, better than Amarante and thus Corinthians was first in the Second Division, a loss to Falcões was followed and lost the battle to keep first place and slimmed their chance of promotion next season, this continued even they defeated Ponta d'Pom at round 7, they had 11 points alongside São Pedro. Corinthians made a goal draw with Amarante and had 12 points, one less than the top two clubs and remains third. Corinthians regained for a chance to head to the Premier Division next season, also struggling to be promoted were Falcões, Amarante and São Pedro. They had a position and a point above fourth placed São Pedro. Corinthians underwent two remaining matches with a 2-1 victory over Calhau, then a 1-3 victory over São Pedro and finally finished as Second Division champions, what the club never achieved. Corinthians finished first with 18 points. Corinthians also scored 16 goals, also scored by Falcões, AMarante and São Pedro. Until March 31, 2018, both Corinthians and Calhau were the two remaining clubs who have played only in the Second Division, it will be only Calhau as in the following season Corinthians will play their first Premier Division season, starting with the association cup.

Stadium

The club and plays in the Adérito Sena Stadium with a capacity of once served up to 4,000, now serves 5,000 after the renovation, it is named after one of the first players of the club Adérito Carvalho da Sena (1905–1970). Mindelense, Batuque, FC Derby, Académica do Mindelo and Amarante are the major clubs of the city and the island playing in that stadium along with GS Castilho. Corinthians also trains at the stadium.
