Kathiawar is a peninsula,near the far north of India's west coast,of about 61,000 km2 (23,500 sq mi) bordering the Arabian Sea. It is bounded by the Gulf of Kutch in the northwest and by the Gulf of Khambhat in the east. In the northeast,it is connected to the rest of Gujarat and borders on the low,fertile hinterland of Ahmedabad. It is crossed by two belts of hill country and is drained radially by nine rivers which have little natural flow aside from in monsoon months,thus dams have been built on some of these. Kathiawar ports have been flourishing centres of trade and commerce since at least the 16th century.

Before the Indian independence in 1947,India was divided into two sets of territories,one under direct British rule,and the other consisting of princely states under the suzerainty of the British Crown,with control over their internal affairs remaining in the hands of their hereditary rulers. He was the father of Muhammad Dilawar Khanji –former Governor of Sindh and his claimed successor. Famed for his extravagant lifestyle and his love of dogs,his decision to accede Junagadh to the Dominion of Pakistan following India's Independence led to the Indian Army taking military action. He is credited with pioneering a conservation effort in what is now the Gir National Park that saved India's last few lions from almost certain extinction.

The Babi dynasty was a Afghan dynasty that formed the ruling royal houses of British India's princely states. The Babai community,originally of Afghan descent,largely resides in India and some parts of Pakistan. The community traces its royal origins to the dynasty founded by Sherkhanji Babi in 1654,who was himself a ruler from the dynasty's founding until 1690. The last Nawab of the British Indian princely state of Junagadh,Sir Muhammad Khanji,signed an Instrument of Accession and acceded his princely state of Junagadh,as well as its vassal state of Bantva Manavadar,to the Dominion of Pakistan after the Partition of British India in 1947. However,the Dominion of India did not recognize the accession and annexed the princely state shortly afterwards.

The Media in Gujarati language started with publication of Bombay Samachar in 1822. Initially the newspapers published business news and they were owned by Parsi people based in Bombay. Later Gujarati newspapers started published from other parts of Gujarat. Several periodicals devoted to social reforms were published in the second half of the 19th century. After arrival of Mahatma Gandhi,the Indian independence movement peaked and it resulted in proliferation of Gujarati media. Following independence,the media was chiefly focused on political news. After bifurcation of Bombay state,the area of service changed. Later there was an increase in readership due to growth of literacy and the media houses expanded its readership by publishing more number of editions. Later these media houses ventured into digital media also. The radio and television media expanded after 1990.
Ratubhai Mulshankar Adani is an Indian politician and social activist from Gujarat. He served as a member of legislative assemblies of Saurashtra,Bombay and Gujarat as well as minister in state cabinets of them.
Janmabhoomi (જન્મભૂમિ) is an Indian Gujarati-language evening daily newspaper,owned by the Saurashtra Trust. It is headquartered in Mumbai,Maharastra. Janmabhoomi was launched in 1934 as an evening paper The newspaper publishes 10-12 pages every day,including an editorial page and an op-ed page. The motto of the newspaper is 'जननीजन्मभूमिश्चस्वर्गादपिगरीयसी'.
Pushpa Janardanrai Mehta,also known as Pushpaben Mehta,was an Indian social worker and politician from Gujarat. She founded and headed several women and child welfare organisations in Ahmedabad and Saurashtra region. She served as the member of legislative assemblies of Saurashtra,Bombay and Gujarat states consecutively from 1952 to 1962. She served as the member of Rajya Sabha from 1966 to 1972. She was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1956.
