Saunemin is a village in Livingston County, Illinois, United States. As of 2023 the current population is 396.[ citation needed ]
Saunemin is located in eastern Livingston County. Illinois Route 116 passes through the southern side of the village, leading west 12 miles (19 km) to Pontiac, the county seat, and east 26 miles (42 km) to Ashkum. The village limits extend west along Route 116 to the crossroads with Illinois Route 47, which leads north 15 miles (24 km) to Dwight and south 10 miles (16 km) to Forrest.

Livingston County is a county located in the U.S. state of Illinois. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 35,815. Its county seat is Pontiac. Livingston County comprises the Pontiac, IL Micropolitan Statistical Area, which is combined with the Bloomington–Normal metropolitan statistical area as the Bloomington-Pontiac, IL Combined Statistical Area in upper portion of Central Illinois.

Albert D. J. Cashier, born Jennie Irene Hodgers, was an Irish-born American soldier who served in the Union Army during the American Civil War. Cashier adopted the identity of a man before enlisting, and maintained it until death. Cashier became famous as one of at least 250 soldiers who were assigned female at birth and enlisted as men to fight in the Civil War. The consistent and nearly lifelong commitment to a male identity has prompted some historians to believe that Cashier was a trans man.

Arthur Raphael Falter was an American teacher, businessman and politician who served in the Illinois House of Representatives in 1961 and 1962. Falter was born on a farm near Kempton, Illinois. He went to the local public schools and to Illinois Wesleyan University. Falter lived in Saunemin, with his wife and family. He taught school and was in the grain business. He also supervised the operation of the grain elevators. He was a Republican. Falter died at Fairbury Hospital in Saunemin from a long illness.
