The seat is located within the Sefwi-Akontombra District of the Western North Region, formally part of Western Region of Ghana. It was formed prior to the 2004 December presidential and parliamentary elections by the division of the old Sefwi-Wiawso constituency into the new Sefwi-Akontombra and Sefwi-Wiawso constituencies. [2]

Paul Evans Aidoo is a Ghanaian teacher and politician. He is the Member of Parliament for Sefwi-Wiawso and is the Minister for the Western Region of Ghana. Prior to heading the Western Region, he was the Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister. He has been condemned for "promoting hatred" by Ghana's Centre for Popular Education and Human Rights after the minister urged people to report suspected homosexuals. "All efforts are being made to get rid of these people in the society," he said.

In 1965 he became the member of parliament representing the Wassaw-Akropong constituency. While in parliament, he held various appointments; he was the Ministerial Secretary to the Minister of State for Presidential Matters in Parliament, he was later appointed Deputy Minister for Defence and once served as the chairman of the State Diamond Mining Corporation. Prior to politics, Aduhene was a teacher at Sefwi Wiawso.
