Simbarashe Simbanenduku Mumbengegwi (born 20 July 1945 [1] ) is a Zimbabwean politician and diplomat currently serving as Minister of State for Presidential Affairs and Monitoring Government Programmes. Previously he was acting Foreign Minister for a few days following the resignation of former President Robert Mugabe [2] He had previously served as Zimbabwe's Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2005 to 2017. From October to November 2017,he was Minister of Macro-Economic Planning and Investment Promotion. [3]
Mumbengegwi was born in Chivi,Zimbabwe (then Southern Rhodesia). After receiving his primary and secondary education in Zimbabwe,he attended Monash University in Melbourne,Australia,in the late 1960s and 1970s. [1] Invariably known as Simba,he was the popular and affable president of the African Students Association,[ citation needed ] and also worked as a teacher. He was a ZANU activist in exile at that time and served as a ZANU representative during the 1970s:he was Deputy ZANU Chief Representative in Australia and the Far East from 1973 to 1976,then Chief Representative in Australia and the Far East from 1976 to 1978,and Chief Representative to Zambia from 1978 to 1980. From 1980 to 1990,he was a member of parliament in the House of Assembly of Zimbabwe from the Midlands Province,and he was the Deputy Speaker and Chairman of Committees of the House of Assembly from 1980 to 1981. He joined the Cabinet as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs in 1981,serving in that position until 1982,when he became Minister of Water Resources and Development. Later in the same year,he was moved to the position of Minister of National Housing,in which position he remained for two years. He was then Minister of Public Construction and National Housing from 1984 to 1988 and Minister of Transport from 1988 to 1990. [1]
From 1981 to 1984,he was Provincial Treasurer of ZANU-PF for the Midlands Province. From 1984 to 1994,he was a member of the Central Committee of ZANU-PF,and he was the Central Committee's Deputy Secretary for Publicity and Information from 1984 to 1989. [1]
Mumbengegwi was Zimbabwe's Permanent Representative to the United Nations from 1990 to 1995;while there,he was vice-president of the United Nations General Assembly from 1990 to 1991 as well as a member of the United Nations Security Council from 1991 to 1992. [1] He twice served as President of the Security Council,in February 1991 and April 1992. [1] [4] He was subsequently Ambassador to Belgium,the Netherlands,Luxembourg and Permanent Representative to the European Communities in 1995. He later became High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and Ambassador to Ireland in 1999,remaining there until 2005 (although he became Ambassador to the United Kingdom rather than High Commissioner in 2003,upon Zimbabwe's withdrawal from the Commonwealth of Nations). He became a Non-Constituency Member of Parliament in 2005. [1] On 15 April 2005,he was appointed as Minister of Foreign Affairs in a cabinet reshuffle,replacing Stan Mudenge. [5]
In the March 2008 parliamentary election,Mumbengegwi was nominated by ZANU-PF as its candidate for the Senate seat from Shurugwi-Zvishavane in the Midlands. [6] He won the seat according to official results,receiving 24,055 votes against 11,988 for Vincent Gwarazimba of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC). [7]
When the ZANU-PF–MDC national unity government was sworn in on 13 February 2009,Mumbengegwi was retained as Minister of Foreign Affairs. [8]
The politics of Zimbabwe occurs in a society deeply divided along lines of race,ethnicity,gender and geography. The ZANU–PF party has historically been dominant in Zimbabwe politics. The party,which was led by Robert Mugabe from 1980 to 2017,has used the powers of the state to intimidate,imprison and otherwise hobble political opposition in Zimbabwe,as well as use state funds and state media to advance the interests of the party.
Isaak Stanislaus Gorerazvo Mudenge was a Zimbabwean politician who served in the government of Zimbabwe as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1995 to 2005 and as Minister of Higher Education from 2005 to 2012.
Herbert Muchemwa Murerwa is a Zimbabwean politician. He served as the Finance Minister of Zimbabwe from April 1996 to July 2000,from August 2002 to February 2004,and again from 26 April 2004 to 6 February 2007. He has been Minister of Lands and Land Resettlement since February 2009.
Saviour Kasukuwere is a Zimbabwean politician who served in the government of Zimbabwe as Minister of Local Government,Rural Development and National Housing between October and November 2017. He was also the ZANU–PF party's national political commissar until December 2017. Before that he was Minister of Youth Development,Indigenisation and Empowerment,and Minister of the Environment,Water and Climate. In October 2020,the Zimbabwe government sought Kasukuwere's extradition after issuing a warrant for his arrest. It was revealed that Kasukuwere was among loyalists of former President Robert Mugabe who fled to South Africa before their criminal trials could be completed.
Sydney Tigere Sekeramayi is a Zimbabwean politician who served in the government of Zimbabwe as Minister of Defence between 2013 and 2017. He has been a minister in the Cabinet since independence in 1980,serving as Minister of Defence from 2001 to 2009 and Minister of State Security from 2009 to 2013.
Patrick Antony Chinamasa is a Zimbabwean politician who served in the government of Zimbabwe as the minister of various cabinet ministries. Previously he served as the Minister of Finance and Investment Promotion and the Minister of Justice,Legal and Parliamentary Affairs.
Nicholas Tasunungurwa Goche is a Zimbabwean politician. He is the former Minister of Transport. Previously he was Minister of Public Service,Labour and Social Welfare.
Simbarashe Herbert Stanley Makoni is a Zimbabwean politician and was a candidate for the March 2008 presidential election against incumbent Robert Mugabe. He was Minister of Finance and Economic Development in President Robert Mugabe's cabinet from 2000 to 2002. He faced strong opposition during the Economic Change in Zimbabwe in the early 2000s as his policies contradicted those of the rest of the ZANU-PF party.
Obert Moses Mpofu is a Zimbabwean politician,who served as Minister of Home Affairs from 2017 to September 2018. Previously he was Minister of Macro-Economic Planning and Investment Promotion;Minister of Industry and International Trade;Minister of Mines and Mining Development;and Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Development. The Cabinet of Zimbabwe was later dissolved on 27 November 2017. He was reappointed as Minister of Home Affairs in Mnangagwa's first cabinet on 30 November 2017. The Culture portfolio was added to his ministry. Mpofu was later removed from the Zimbabwe cabinet in September 2018.
Kembo Dugish Campbell Muleya Mohadi is a Zimbabwean politician and Vice-President of Zimbabwe since 8 September 2023. He previously served in the same role from 28 December 2017 to 1 March 2021,when he resigned. He briefly served as the Minister of Defence,Security and War Veterans in 2017. Previously he was Minister of State for National Security in the President's Office from 2015 to 2017 and Minister of Home Affairs from 2002 to 2015.

Zambian President Levy Mwanawasa called an emergency meeting of SADC leaders for 12 April during the 2008 Zimbabwe presidential election to discuss the post-election impasse. According to Mwanawasa,Zimbabwe's "deepening problems" meant that the issue needed to be "dealt with at presidential level". Jacob Zuma,meanwhile,said that he thought results should have already been announced,and he described the failure to release them as "unprecedented".
Walter Mzembi is a Zimbabwean politician. He previously served as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry. He was the Member of the House of Assembly for Masvingo South (ZANU-PF). It was announced on November 27,2017,that Simbarashe Mumbengegwi was now the acting Foreign Minister of Zimbabwe. In October 2020,it was revealed Mzembi was among those who fled to South Africa before their criminal trials could be completed.

General elections were held in Zimbabwe on 29 March 2008 to elect the President and Parliament. Because of Zimbabwe's dire economic situation,the elections were expected to provide incumbent President Robert Mugabe with his toughest electoral challenge to date. Mugabe's opponents were critical of the handling of the electoral process,and the government was accused of planning to rig the election. Human Rights Watch said that the election was likely to be "deeply flawed."
Patrick Zhuwao is a Zimbabwean businessman,farmer,and politician. He served as minister of public service,labour and social welfare between October and November 2017. He was expelled from the ruling ZANU–PF party during the 2017 Zimbabwean coup d'état.
