Walter Mzembi (born 16 March 1964) [1] [2] is a Zimbabwean politician. He previously served as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry. [3] He was the Member of the House of Assembly for Masvingo South (ZANU-PF). It was announced on November 27,2017,that Simbarashe Mumbengegwi was now the acting Foreign Minister of Zimbabwe. [4] In October 2020,it was revealed Mzembi was among those who fled to South Africa before their criminal trials could be completed. [5]
Mzembi was born to an Ndebele mother and a Karanga Shona father. [6]
When the ZANU-PF – Movement for Democratic Change national unity government was sworn in on February 13,2009,Mzembi became Minister of Tourism. [7] Since 2007,he is placed on the European Union sanctions list.
He helped organize the UNWTO co-hosted by Zimbabwe and Zambia in August 2013. [8] [9] In 2017 Mzembi was the candidate of the African Union for the position of the 2018-21 Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization. [10]
On 19 November 2017,Mzembi was expelled from ZANU–PF by the party's central committee. Other prominent G40 politicians,including Grace Mugabe,Saviour Kasukuwere,Patrick Zhuwao,Ignatius Chombo,Jonathan Moyo,Shadreck Mashayamombe,Makhosini Hlongwane,Innocent Hamandishe,Samuel Undenge and Sarah Mahoka were also expelled from the party. [11] His predecessor,Simbarashe Mumbengegwi,would also become acting Minister of Foreign Affairs on 27 November 2017 as well. He resurfaced at a scheduled parliamentary seating on the 28 November 2017 where he seemed jovial and loyal to the new leadership. He first went to greet First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa followed by handshakes with several other MPs. [12]
Mzembi was arrested on 5 January 2018 and appeared in court on the next day where he was granted bail. The case has however dragged with his lawyers citing his ill health. He was however seen in a video circulating on social media appearing fit. [13] He was arrested over allegedly misuse of resources meant for a tourism conference in 2013. [14] [15] On October 12,2020,it was revealed Mzembi fled to South Africa before his criminal trial could be completed and that Zimbabwe's national prosecutors met with South Africa Prosecutor-General Kumbirai Hodzi to seek extradition of both Mzembi and Saviour Kasukuwere on corruption charges. [5] However,Hodzi hesitated and demanded that the proposed extraditions be based on the Extradition (Designated Countries) Order of 1990. [5] Zimbabwe's prosecutor general stated that both Mzembi and Kasukuwere “had their cases before the courts,but they fled before their trials were completed.” [5]
Jonathan Nathaniel Mlevu Moyo is a Zimbabwean politician who served in the government of Zimbabwe as Minister of Higher Education from 2015 to 2017. He was previously Minister of Information and Publicity from 2000 to 2005 and again from 2013 to 2015. He was elected to the House of Assembly of Zimbabwe as an independent candidate in 2005 and 2008. He is considered the core architect of the AIPPA and POSA restrictive legislation.

Saviour Kasukuwere is a Zimbabwean politician who served in the government of Zimbabwe as Minister of Local Government,Rural Development and National Housing between October and November 2017. He was also the ZANU–PF party's national political commissar until December 2017. Before that he was Minister of Youth Development,Indigenisation and Empowerment,and Minister of the Environment,Water and Climate. In October 2020,the Zimbabwe government sought Kasukuwere's extradition after issuing a warrant for his arrest. It was revealed that Kasukuwere was among loyalists of former President Robert Mugabe who fled to South Africa before their criminal trials could be completed.
Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa is a Zimbabwean revolutionist and politician who has served as President of Zimbabwe since 24 November 2017. A member of ZANU–PF and a longtime ally of former President Robert Mugabe,he held a series of cabinet portfolios and was Mugabe's Vice President until November 2017,when he was dismissed before coming to power in a coup d'état. He secured his first full term as president in the disputed 2018 general election.

Ignatius Morgen Chiminya Chombo is a Zimbabwean politician who was Finance Minister of Zimbabwe in 2017. Previously he has served in the Cabinet of Zimbabwe as Minister of Home Affairs from 2015–17,Minister of Local Government,Public Works and Urban Development from 2000–2015.

The Cabinet of Zimbabwe is the executive body that forms the government of Zimbabwe together with the President of Zimbabwe. The Cabinet is composed of the President,the Vice-Presidents,and ministers appointed by the President. Until 1987,the Cabinet was chaired by the Prime Minister;it is now headed by the President.

He went on to serve as Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade in the cabinet of Emmerson Mnangagwa from November 2017 until his death.
Generation 40 (G40) was a faction of the Zimbabwe African National Union –Patriotic Front (ZANU–PF). The G40 was an informal group of ZANU–PF politicians working on generation change by replacing the older officials of the party. The group promoted itself as the younger,savvy,and well educated ZANU–PF members. Prisca Mupfumira,or Priscah Mupfumira,was a Zimbabwean politician and government minister under President Robert Mugabe. When the President was replaced by Emmerson Mnangagwa,she was the first serving ZANU–PF minister to be arrested for corruption.
