Plot

At night, a masked Kalimuthu commits a murder using a torchlight on a man. Meanwhile, in Kanchipuram, Malar, a 9th-grade student, gives a speech about her father and wins first prize. However, when a teacher asks about her father, she gets emotional and remembers her past when her peers shamed her for her father being a convicted murderer in jail. At the same time, her father, Thilagavarman, who is serving a life sentence for his wife's murder, gets a 2-week parole after 14 years to visit his dying father. Malar gets upset when she hears that Thilagan is coming home and refuses to see him, taking down her pictures and staying with her aunt until her father's parole ends. Thilagan reunites with his family and recalls marrying Jennifer and Malar's birth. His mother encourages him to see his daughter.

Anbazhagan intends to kill his leader, Manickam Thangam. Anbu decides to give him fifty lakhs to his aide, Manikandan, to murder Manickam at his bar. Thilagan witnesses Malar being eve-teased by some boys at the tea shop near her school and beats them up. Velankanni, Thilagan's shadow police, goes with Thilagan to Annachi Wines. Thilagan sees Manickam Thangam arrive with Anbazhagan at the shop, but Anbazhagan leaves. Anbu calls his aide, Manikandan, to do the murder. Manickam drinks liquor at the bar and enjoys the music. Manikandan arrives and stabs a bleeding Manickam in the neck. The following day, Nandhini and DSP Nagalingam arrive at the murder scene. Nagalingam suspects Nandhini of Manickam's murder, but she denies it.

Velankanni informs Anbu that the police found the knife used in the murder and extracted the fingerprints. Anbu threatens Manikandan to surrender at court. A pathologist explains that Manickam died from an eardrum blast, using metal-like substances to create high-decibel noise to make his nose and ears bleed. Nandhini visits Anbu at his farmhouse. Thilagan and Velankanni meet Anbu, who recognises Thilagan as the ambulance driver. Anbu and Thilagan fight and Thilagan poisons his inhaler with hydrogen cyanide, killing him. Nandhini finds a dead Anbu, and Nagalingam suspects Nandhini for Anbu's murder.

Nandhini deduces that Thilagan is the mastermind behind Anbu's and Manickam's murders. Nandhini arrests Thilagan, and Malar witnesses it. However, a lack of substantial evidence means that Thilagan is released. A flashback reveals that Thilagan called Kalimuthu to stab an unnamed corpse. Malar's friends discover that she lied in her speech and that her father is a convict. She angrily goes home and destroys her first prize. Eventually, Nandhini's investigation uncovers the body of a missing boy, Vicky, buried on Thilagan's land.

Nandhini's further investigation leads to Manikandan getting arrested. A fight between the two leads to Vicky revealing that someone else killed Manickam before Mani stabbed him. Mani then killed Vicky. Nandhini decides to investigate the deaf and mute prisoners. After she shows Thilagan's photo, they recognise him. They reveal Thilagan's past.

Past: 14 years ago, Thilagan was an ambulance driver who fell in love with Jennifer, a beautiful mute and deaf nurse. They got married and had Malar. Anbu and his goons beat up Thilagan's friend, Kathir, but Thilagan saves him. Kathir reveals he was in love with Inspector Nagalingam's sister, but Nagalingam beat them since they were from different castes. Nagalingam threatens Thilagan, but Thilagan remains unfazed. Nagalingam calls Thilagan one night, witnesses Manickam stabbing an injured Jennifer, and narrates it to Thilagan. Thilagan drives to the hospital despite Anbu's goons chasing him, but she dies. The police arrest Thilagan for Jennifer's and Kathir's deaths due to falsified evidence by Manickam and Anbu. A flashback reveals that Thilagan murdered Manickam by tying him up and scrapping metal on the bar floor, causing Manickam to bleed through the nose and mouth.

Present: Using the temple festival to his advantage, Thilagan kidnaps DSP Nagalingam, beats him up at the temple and eventually witnesses him dying in an ambulance, avenging Jennifer's death. Nandhini rushes home to Thilagan and sees him open the door normally. Thilagan returns to jail, and one day, Nandhini brings Malar to visit him. Father and daughter share an emotional reunion and reconcile.
