The South African Youth Congress (SAYCO) was a pro-African National Congress youth organization, active in the struggle against Apartheid. The motto of SAYCO was "Victory is Certain - Freedom or Death". In 1990 SAYCO merged with the ANC Youth League.

Peter Mokaba was ultimately elected ANCYL President following the merging of SAYCO and ANCYL

Ronald Ozzy Lamola is a South African lawyer and politician, Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, and a member of the African National Congress (ANC). He has also been serving as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa since 22 May 2019. He is a member of the ANC's National Executive Committee and National Working Committee. Lamola had previously been involved in the African National Congress Youth League.

Neo Samuel Maneng is a South African politician from the Northern Cape. He is the chief whip of the African National Congress (ANC) caucus in the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature. He was elected to the legislature in May 2019. He is also the former provincial secretary of the African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL). Maneng is seen as someone who is aligned to former premier Sylvia Lucas.

Muhammad Khalid Sayed is a South African politician and youth activist who serves as a Member of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament for the official opposition African National Congress (ANC). He took office as an MPP in May 2019 and is also the ANC's deputy chief whip and shadow MEC for Education. He is also the chair of the provincial branch of the ANC Youth League. Elected in 2015, he has since been re-elected in 2018.

Jacob Boy Mamabolo is a South African politician from Limpopo who serves as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa. He was elected to Parliament at the 2019 general election. Mamabolo is a member of the African National Congress.

Desmond Lawrence Moela is a South African politician. A party member of the African National Congress (ANC), he also been serving as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa since the 22 May 2019. Moela had previously been involved in the African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL).
