The National Basketball Conference was a regional-based basketball league in the Philippines formed in 2004. The league is sanctioned by the Philippine national sport association for basketball, the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas. Teams are also sponsored by the local government and sponsors. In 2008, it merged with the Mindanao Visayas Basketball Association (MVBA), and Third Force Inc. (TFI) to form the new Liga Pilipinas.

The 2014 Bukidnon bus bombing occurred in the Philippines on December 9, 2014, when a bomb hit a bus in front of the main entrance of Central Mindanao University along Sayre Highway in Sitio Musuan, Barangay Dologon, Maramag, Bukidnon. The blast killed at least 11 people and injured another 43. Most of the victims were university students who were about to go home when the incident occurred. The bus was owned by transport company, Rural Transit Mindanao Incorporated, bearing the traffic number 2640 and plate number KVS-164. The bus was en route to Cagayan de Oro from Banisilan, North Cotabato.

The Mindanao Railway, previously known as the Trans-Mindanao High Speed Railway, is a proposed railway system in Mindanao, the southernmost major island of the Philippines. Originally proposed in 1936 as part of Manuel L. Quezon's efforts to strengthen the presence of Commonwealth government in Mindanao against the rising influence of Imperial Japan before World War II, the line was shelved. Other proposals and studies were made in the 1950s, 1990s, and the 2000s, but never materialized. The current line began development in 2018; however, construction has yet to start. It will be initially built as a single-track standard gauge system to be operated by diesel-powered rolling stock, but will have provisions for upgrading to double-track and electrification through overhead lines.
