The 2006 European Swimming Championships were held in Budapest, Hungary, from 26 July – 6 August 2006. Disciplines include swimming, diving, synchronised swimming (synchro) and open water swimming. European Water Polo Championships for 2006 were also organized by LEN, but held separately.
The Swimming portion of the 13th FINA World Aquatics Championships was held at the Foro Italico sports complex in Rome, Italy from Sunday 26 July – Sunday 2 August 2009. It featured 40 long course (50m) events.
The first heats of the Women's 100 m Butterfly took place on the morning of Sunday, 26 July. The semi-final took place in the evening session of 26 July and the final took place on the evening of 27 July at the Foro Italico in Rome, Italy. In the final, 7 of the 8 swimmers finished within the same second, and 5 within the same 0.1 of a second.
