The electronic music group Tangerine Dream has released more than three hundred albums, singles, EPs and compilations since the group was formed in 1967.
Tangerine Dream's releases have been divided into several eras based on the record label of the time. Tangerine Dream's first releases were on the Ohr label. The Ohr logo was a pink ear, thus fans refer to this era as the Pink Years; this covers Electronic Meditation (1970) to Atem (1973). In 1974, the band switched to Virgin Records with the release of Phaedra , thus the Virgin Years. The switch to the Jive Records label with their blue logo was the start of the Blue Years beginning with Poland in 1984.
The Melrose Years started when Tangerine Dream switched to Peter Baumann's Private Music label, located on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles; the first release was Optical Race (1988). This was a period of rapid line-up changes, beginning with the departure of Christopher Franke, and ending with the departure of Paul Haslinger and the introduction of Jerome Froese and Linda Spa. A switch to the Miramar label in Seattle gave the name Seattle Years with the release of Rockoon (1992).
Tangerine Dream moved to the Castle label in 1996 briefly before Edgar Froese created his own TDI label, thus this era is the TDI Years or sometimes the Millennium Years. In late 2005 the label was renamed Eastgate, giving rise to the Eastgate Years. In late 2014 Edgar Froese conceived of translating the current knowledge of quantum mechanics into sound, thus the Quantum Years and the release of Mala Kunia .
The Dream Mixes series is a project initiated by Jerome Froese. The series has a dance music slant and primarily consists of remixes of other TD material. The Dante Trilogy is a musical interpretation of Dante's Divine Comedy . The Five Atomic Seasons series was commissioned by a Japanese businessman who survived the atomic bombings of both Nagasaki and Hiroshima. The Bootleg Box sets, the Bootmoon series and the Vault series are live concerts sourced from recordings; many were first released as part of the Tangerine Tree project.

Albums billed as live commonly include overdubs and original material added in studio. The extreme case is Live Miles, of which less than a third had been performed live at the time of its release. Given the fact that the band's live albums often consist of original music not available on any studio album, the distinction between studio and live albums is less useful with Tangerine Dream than with most bands.

Tangerine Dream is a German electronic music band founded in 1967 by Edgar Froese. The group has seen many personnel changes over the years, with Froese the only constant member until his death in January 2015. The best-known lineup of the group was its mid-1970s trio of Froese, Christopher Franke, and Peter Baumann. In 1979, Johannes Schmoelling replaced Baumann until his own departure in 1985. This lineup was notable for composing many movie soundtracks. Since Froese's death in 2015, the group has been under the leadership of Thorsten Quaeschning. Quaeschning is Froese's chosen successor and is currently the longest-serving band member, having joined in 2005. Quaeschning is currently joined by violinist Hoshiko Yamane who joined in 2011 and Paul Frick who joined in 2020. Prior to this Quaeschning and Yamane performed with Ulrich Schnauss from 2014 to 2020. Schnauss only played two shows with Froese in November 2014 before Froese's passing.
Electronic Meditation is the debut album by German electronic music group Tangerine Dream. It was released in June 1970 by record label Ohr.
Alpha Centauri is the second studio album by German electronic music group Tangerine Dream. It was released in March 1971 by record label Ohr.
Zeit is the third studio album by German electronic music group Tangerine Dream. A double LP, it was released in August 1972, being the first release featuring Peter Baumann, who joined then-current members Christopher Franke and Edgar Froese. Zeit is subtitled Largo in Four Movements.
Atem is the fourth studio album by German electronic music group Tangerine Dream. It was released in March 1973 by record label Ohr.
Jerome Froese is a German musician who, in 1990, officially joined his father Edgar Froese in the band Tangerine Dream. He remained a member until 2006. Prior to his direct involvement in Tangerine Dream, Froese often appeared on the covers of the band's albums as a child, beginning with the 1973 release of Atem, when he was two years four months old at the time the album was released.
The Keep (1997) is the twenty-third soundtrack album by Tangerine Dream and their fifty-eighth overall. It is the soundtrack to the movie The Keep (1983). A limited run of 150 CDs were sold at a concert by the group in the UK in 1997. Virgin soon announced that the album would be available for general release in early 1998, but legal issues with the film studio stopped the release. In 1999, Tangerine Dream's own record label sold 300 copies of the Millennium Booster album set that included The Keep with a different cover.
Optical Race is the thirty-fifth major release and eighteenth studio album by Tangerine Dream. Optical Race is the inaugural album of the Melrose Years era, as it is the first appearance of the band on the Private Music label, founded by former Tangerine Dream member Peter Baumann. It was their first album without Christopher Franke since 1971's Alpha Centauri and the band's first to be programmed largely with a computer, an Atari ST using Steinberg/Jones software. The sleeve of the 12" release and the first release on CD and Compact Cassette features a die-cut outer sleeve with a multicolored inner sleeve.
Melrose is the thirty-ninth major release and twentieth studio album by Tangerine Dream. This album was released in 1990 on the Private Music label founded by former Tangerine Dream member Peter Baumann. The album further developed the instrumental pop style known from the previous two Private Music albums, Optical Race and Lily on the Beach. Edgar Froese's son, Jerome, for the first time appears on a Tangerine Dream album as a full-time member. This was Paul Haslinger's last album with Tangerine Dream.
Canyon Dreams is the fortieth major release and it was released as the fourteenth soundtrack album by German band Tangerine Dream. It was recorded in 1986 and released in 1991 on compact disc and compact cassette formats. The music was written as a sound accompaniment for an eponymous scenic video film about the Grand Canyon by Jan Nickman, released by the record label Miramar in 1987 on VHS, Betamax and LaserDisc. The album's tracks are divided into various episodes and related to the titles of the cuts.
Rockoon is the forty-fourth major release and twenty-first studio album released by Tangerine Dream. The album was started in March 1991 and completed January 1992, making it the longest production ever in the band's history until the release of Quantum Gate in 2017. The album was nominated in the US for the "Best New Age Album 1992" Grammy and reached the Top Ten in Billboard New Age charts and the Top Twenty in Billboard Jazz charts.
Quinoa is the forty-sixth release by the German band Tangerine Dream.
Turn of the Tides is the forty-ninth release and twenty-second major studio album by the band Tangerine Dream. It is the first studio album to feature saxophone player Linda Spa and guitarist Zlatko Perica performing as full-time members. It was nominated for Best New Age Album at the 1995 Grammys.
Ages is Tangerine Dream leader Edgar Froese's fourth studio album, released in 1978.
The Island of the Fay is the 120th release and twenty-ninth main studio album by the electronic group Tangerine Dream. It was first revealed in late February 2011, and was released on March 18. A preview of "Fay bewitching the Moon" was released to the members who were part of the Tangerine Dream Online Club (TDOC). This is the first release to feature violinist Hoshiko Yamane as a band member. This album marks the beginning of the band's new "Sonic Poems" series.
Goblins' Club is the fifty-fourth release and twenty-fourth main studio album by Tangerine Dream. Although sonically a counterweight to The Dream Mixes, it is usually considered the first album in the Millennium/TDI Years era due to the switch from Miramar, despite TDI not yet being the band's label. An Australian version lacked the track "Elf June and the Midnight Patrol," co-written by Linda Spa, replacing it with "Fort Worth Runway One" by Edgar Froese. A 2004 re-release included both, but edited the final two tracks to fit on the disc. Goblins' Club marks the final appearance of Linda Spa as a regular group member until returning for Jeanne d'Arc (2005).
Ambient Monkeys subtitled is the fifty-ninth release by Tangerine Dream.
Inferno is the seventy-third release and twelfth live album by German electronic group Tangerine Dream. It is the first live album to feature new compositions since 220 Volt Live (1993). The lyrical content is based on the first part of the Italian narrative poem Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri. Inferno is the first album to feature percussionist Iris Camaa who remained with the group until 2014.
Jeanne D'Arc – La Révolte Éternelle is the eighty-ninth release and twenty-sixth major studio album by German electronic music group Tangerine Dream. It was recorded during June 2005 at Eastgate Studios in Vienna, Austria and released in September 2005 through TDI Music. Jeanne d'Arc is the first Tangerine Dream album to feature Thorsten Quaeschning as a full-time member. The album also features a returning Linda Spa on saxophone. This is her first appearance on a Tangerine Dream album since Goblins' Club in 1996. Jerome Froese makes his final appearance after joining his father in 1990 for the Melrose album.
Mala Kunia (2014) is a mini-album and roughly the 140th release by electronic music group Tangerine Dream. Violinist Hoshiko Yamane is not credited on this release.
