Tasman Council is a local government body in Tasmania, situated in the south-east of the state. Tasman is classified as a rural local government area and has a population of 2,404, [1] the region covers both the Tasman and Forestier peninsulas, with Nubeena the principal town.
The Tasman municipality was established on 1 January 1907. [2] Tasman is classified as rural, agricultural and medium (RAM) under the Australian Classification of Local Governments. [3]
Port Arthur, Nubeena and Koonya are the main towns. The local government area contains the Tasman National Park and a large range of tourism sites including the former penal settlement of Port Arthur, now one of the eleven Australian Convict Sites listed on the World Heritage Register; Eaglehawk Neck and the Tessellated Pavement amongst many others.

Tasman Council is composed of seven councillors elected using the Hare-Clark system of proportional representation as a single ward. All councillors are elected for a fixed four-year term of office. The mayor and deputy mayor are each directly elected for a four-year term. The mayor and deputy mayor must also be elected as councillors in order to hold office. Elections are normally held in October, with the next election due to be held in October 2018. Neither the Labor Party nor the Liberal Party endorse local government candidates in Tasmania.

The Tasman National Park is a national park in eastern Tasmania, Australia, approximately 56 kilometres (35 mi) east of Hobart. The 107.5-square-kilometre (41.5 sq mi) park is situated on part of both the Forestier and Tasman peninsulas and encompasses all of Tasman Island.

The 2016 census recorded a population of 156 for the state suburb of Taranna. It is a hamlet on the Tasman Peninsula. Local points of interest include its Presbyterian church, immediately adjacent to the Federation Chocolate Factory, and a Tasmanian devil park, "Unzoo".
The Peninsula Football Association (PFA) is a former non-professional Australian Rules football league from south-eastern Tasmania, Australia that operated between 1988 and 2001.
Koonya is a rural locality in the local government area (LGA) of Tasman in the South-east LGA region of Tasmania. The locality is about 18 kilometres (11 mi) north-east of the town of Nubeena. The 2016 census has a population of 134 for the state suburb of Koonya. It hosts the annual Koonya Garlic Festival, a "one-day celebration".
Cape Raoul is a rural locality and a natural feature in the local government area of Tasman in the South-east region of Tasmania. It is located about 13 kilometres (8.1 mi) south of the town of Nubeena. The 2016 census determined a population of nil for the state suburb of Cape Raoul.
Michael John Kent, AOTY was an Australian businessman, sports administrator, diplomat and politician, from Hobart, Tasmania. Kent was the Tasmanian recipient of the Australian of the Year in 2004, and also received the Member of the Order of Australia award in 1998.
